Romney Criticizes Single People At Pat Robertson U Speech
Edited on Sun May-06-07 01:55 PM by K8-EEE
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/05/AR2007050501081.html

WTF? I guess if you don't get married you can't be a GOD ON YOUR OWN PLANET after you die and rule over your SPIRIT WIVES bearing your SPIRIT CHILDREN for all eternity!!

It just annoys me when these cultist weirdos start judging everybody else on their "faith based" illogical thinking. Whether you prefer married or single life is none of his damn business. What an ASS!

52. Ah, but God marked Cain so his life would be spared
And that "whomsoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be upon him sevenfold" (Gen 4 : 15)

So, by that logic, shouldn't we SPARE terrorists instead of killing them? Or leave the concept of "vengeance" to God instead of humans?

Honestly, do these people EVER pick up a bible?!

5. And this is why these Neocon nuts will lose..
The population of singles in America is huge....and imagine if this group merges (putting all of their differences aside) this includes the age group from about 18-30, the group that the politicians call disenfranchised). This group could litterally turn the election into a one sided stomp of the Repugs...

That would be something wouldn't it.....?one can dream....can't they?

39. No, gay mormons do "gender repair therapy" or whatever they call it
Check this out, "Confessions Of A Mormon Boy" -- I saw this play in LA (true story of a Mormon going through all the "ssa" (same sex attraction) therapy and getting kicked out of the church when it didn't "work."

http://www.mormonboy.com/

Really interesting!! If this comes to your community I highly recommend it.

22. 1 Corinthians 7:32-37 actually says it's good to be single.
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=53&chapter=7&version=9

But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

33But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

34There is difference also between a wife and an (unmarried woman). The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

35And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

36But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his (unmarried woman), if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

37Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.

41. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the Book of Mormon supercedes the Bible; it's the new revelation doncha know.
My Mormon girl-cousins were encouraged to marry early back in the 60's. Now maybe not so early, but the urge to pair the kids up is really part of that whole culture.
:eyes:

And Christian fundies who think the Mormons are just another fundie sect are in for a shock, if they bother to check. Yes, they believe in hetero marriage, and chastity, and are pro-birth, tend to be law-abiding and upright. But it comes from a different mindset.

OF course, I didn't vote for him, but those who did were not aware of what a fascist he really is. I've said it before, I hope the little shit spends all of the money he got screwing people when he was a venture capitalist... hope he spends every dime and then has nothing to show for it.

28. Where the hell did he get this info about French marriages?
"It seems that Europe leads Americans in this way of thinking," Romney told the crowd of more than 5,000. "In France, for instance, I'm told that marriage is now frequently contracted in seven-year terms where either party may move on when their term is up. How shallow and how different from the Europe of the past."

I couldn't find anything that proved Romney's statement.

From what I could figure out... the French must obtain a civil marriage before they can marry in the church. They can't even marry in a church without the certificate.

53. Yeah but wassup with the 7 year itch lie?
It's true in Spain as well -- everyone who's married basically has a civil union. I went to a wedding there once and there are two weddings -- one is civil in a courthouse and the other one in Church (in this case as most, Catholic.)

That's what they should do here, everyone is in a civil union as far as legality, and if individual churches don't want to marry people "in the church" then whatever, churches can discriminate (but then they will find their attendance going down, down, down as everyone has someone in their life that is gay who they love and wish love for -- at least, most people.)

54. They bypass the civil union requirement by...
allowing religious marriages in addition to civil marriages. As long as a clergy person is ordained and is approved by their leaders they can perform a legal marriage and send the paperwork to the county for recording in most states. Can't verify that is the method in all states.

55. By the way I think we shouldn't call them civil unions.
In Wisconsin, in the 1800's and I think the early 1900's they had to check-off religious ceremony or civil ceremony for type of marriage performed. I don't know if that is still on the form or not.

Rather than calling them civil unions they should be called civil marriages and church marriages should be called just that.

30. I just spent the last two days looking up everything I could find
about Mormons because of a previous post. There is a great deal on the internet.

I have to say I am shocked Romney is even being considered for Pres. I know it will offend some people, but the beliefs he holds are, to me, inconsistent with leading a free society. I know I am not an expert, but the things in this "religion" seem delusional to me. I have no doubt there are wonderful members of the Mormon community. I am referring to the basic tenants of the faith.

It is no wonder that they are kept so secret (even though I was able to find temple ceremonies, pictures of the famous magic underwear, and exmo groups online) the light of day would surely hurt their membership and recruiting. But then a majority supposedly voted for Bush two times so they would probably still flourish.

I am still trying to wrap my mind around how they get any adult converts who accept Joseph Smith's claims......incomprehensible.

I'm stuck on the temple ceremonies, nearly identical to Masonic rituals, and the idea that indians of Jewish ancestry, baptism of the dead, the actual location of the garden of eden was in Missouri, sear stones, golden plates that just happened to show up on Smith's farm in New York State.....etc.

They would lose me at the underwear.

42. Baptizing dead people?
It's weird 4 sure....but I gotta say as an ex-Catholic I have also come to the conclusion it's weird to baptize newborns, newborns and dead people have absolutely no say or consent in these decisions, obviously! It's so manipulative but like all religions that obsess on the afterlife, anything is justified if it's "saving" people (aka, forcably enslaving them in their myths.)

46. they baptise their ANCESTORS by proxy
So that dyed-in-the-wool Presbyterian minister that lived and died by his own version of Christianity then becomes a MORMON. Why do you think they are gathering personal records from around the World?

It's NOT to aid others. It's to build their afterlife community.

Don't know about anyone else, but I have some ancestors that would start a civil war in Heaven if they suddenly were told to go to another section - that they'd been re-baptized. :eyes:

Remember when all these idiot pols (including Holy Joe LIEberman)blamed Marilyn Manson -- the point was made that they also went bowling right before they did that, so maybe it was the bowling...or maybe it's the militaristic, pro-war environment that these things always take place in, where violence is the ultimate problem solver?

Romney, like all Mormons, has really fallen for perhaps the greatest con-job of the 19th century. Joseph Smith was a con-man (yes, he went to jail for it_ who came up with a great scam. magic plates that can only be read by magic glasses, and anyone besides Smith who saw them would die instantly? Sure thing.

Look, anyone who wants to believe in such junk can do so, but falling for such an obvious con, and basing your entire life on it? as far as I can tell that should disqualify you from holding any elective office.
