Newsweek Poll: Edwards would beat Romney by 37pts, narrows Clinton lead since March...
LINK: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18505030/site/newsweek/

"Edwards defeats the Republicans by larger margins than Clinton does: the former Democratic vice-presidential nominee outdistances Giuliani by six points, McCain by 10 and Romney by 37, the largest lead in any of the head-to-head matchups."

<snip>

"Edwards has narrowed Clinton’s lead over him though. Back in March Edwards trailed Clinton by 31 points; now her lead is down to 19 points."

***********
Just two excerpts from the Newsweek article. One factor not addressed in the article is the voting preference of the independents/undecideds and unaffiliated voters --which every poll has shown Edwards leading this group among all Democratic candidates. And to win in the General Election our Democratic nominee is going to have to reach this group.

Overall good news for Edwards supporters.

2. Jesus, a flatulent Zell Miller could probably defeat Romney, once people got to know the baaastid!
He just SUCKS so much, it's .... well, PROFOUND.

And it's all on tape...if he got the nom, it would be nothing short of a crucifixion!

Anyway, ANY candidate could beat that bum. He's just got too much of a record, and none of it is good. He can't rest his laurels on that stupid Olympics business. He fucked Massachusetts up WAY too much, and it's all documented.

4. They are terrified of Edwards, this is why MSM is
playing up Clinton and Obama. They will have a much harder time beating Edwards in a general election, than Hillary or Obama, they know this and are trying hard to ignore Edwards. I wish folks on here understood that.

to corporate America than Edwards. MSM is hedging its bets.

6. I don't take that from the story--to me, it reads like it's still a horserace in the
{D} field...they note who's where in this poll and that, but nowhere do I see "inevitability" stamped over the contest.

It's way too soon to pick a winner...and I don't think this article is doing that.

7. This is good news for not just Edwards.
Obama would defeat Rudy by 7 points, McCain by 13 points, and Romney by 29 points.

8. Bottom line: he's a white male, and the "he's a dirty lawyer" talking point doesn't
resonate with nearly as large a crowd as does racism or the cumulative effects of 15 years of anti-Hilary propaganda.

9. My Republican step-brother said he would vote for Edwards.
He's a veteran, goes to church 2 to 3 times a week, and lives in Florida. He was an avid Bush supporter up until about the last year and admits that the Bushies have screwed up the country almost beyond repair.

If my step-brother says he would vote for Edwards, we would have a good thing going if we made JRE the nominee. :)

11. Same for my husband and his father.
They are both staunch Republicans. They both like Edwards a lot. My husband is going to switch over to a 'D' so he can caucus for Edwards. My father-in-law probably won't go that far, but he would vote for Edwards in the general.

That says a lot.
