Being anywhere near Cheney is mighty inconvenient
The Chicago trial of newspaper magnate Conrad Black, which is bogged down in fiscal fecal, drew an aside recently that was downright juicy.

It seems Veep Dick Cheney's recent trip to Chicago caused a bit of a disturbance to the Black family, while ensconced at their upmarket hotel.

• To wit: One morning last month, Black's daughter Alana -- who was having trouble sleeping -- ignored a ringing phone and a knock at her hotel room door.

• The upshot: 10 minutes later, a man identifying himself as "hotel security" opened the door to her hotel room . . . he was followed by a cadre of men in suits and one large dog. The men searched the place; the dog sniffed clothes. Alana assumed it was either "a raid by the Department of Justice engineered by her father's accusers . . . or it was a dream."

. . .

• The endshot: The raid was over in 10 minutes.

• The potshot: Alone in her room, Alana "returned once more to bed to get as much shut-eye as possible before transfer to a penitentiary in Marion, Ill. Half an hour later, phone rings to wake her up for fervent apology from hotel manager. Vice President Dick Cheney was going to be in the room next to her for a few hours.

2. You'd think the Imperial families of the Landsraad would treat each other
with more resepect.

But then Dick "The Harkonen" Cheney is just a pile of festering pustules of paranoia.

5. That's what I was thinking when reading the article
Sure Black is a skunk who is being prosecuted, but when did being a crook make any difference in this administration.

One would think if one of the elite is occupying a room, you don't send the SS in to check them out.
