Media and French elections - a good example of what is wrong with the US media
Edited on Sun May-06-07 06:35 AM by Mass
Last Wednesday, the French candidates for president had a 2 hours and 45 minutes debate where they debated all subjects from school policy to foreign policy to housing policy ... It was a REAL debate, where candidates exchanged ideas, and not a parallel interview as the two recent debates on MSNBC (I saw it, contrarely to them).

Despite that, the editorial board of the Boston Globe, who clearly had not seen the debate and is probably writing based on an AP press release (or Reuters), given that it describes an incident that lasted exactly 5 minutes in the debate, and that was actually to the point as it illustrated the governing style that both candidates would have, allows itself to give France a lesson on how to debate. While this is definitively not important because it is a local newspaper and that nobody except the Boston readers will be uninformed, it is a perfect example of the arrogance of the US media, both thinking they know better than the rest of the world, and reporting on events they did not witness, and reporting a false image of the rest of the world.

When the image is that incorrect on such a trivial subject, you can wonder how incorrect it is when it comes to subjects that are actually important to the us.
