Poll question: In the Primary Wars - Which One Are You?
Edited on Sun May-06-07 12:38 AM by Solly Mack
Love Me Love My Dog

You identify so intimately with your candidate of choice that you have become one with that person. Any disagreement with your candidate's stance on an issue is a disagreement with you as a person. Anyone that doesn't like your candidate must not like you. Any vote against your candidate is a vote against you as a person.

Philosopher

You have a favorite candidate and you will be voting for that person. Other people may feel differently and that's OK. You are OK with explaining why you picked your candidate of choice and don't understand why others feel the need to take your choice as an attack against them as a person. You're willing to listen to why others think their candidate of choice is better but you don't consider their choice to be a personal assault against you as a person. You understand that different people will see a candidate's stance on a policy in different ways.

Do As I Say Not As I Do

If people don't like your candidate of choice they are attacking you as a person and you react defensively - But - when you voice your dislike of another candidate, other people need to learn to not take it personal and to stop reacting defensively.

Contrarian

If a thread is about candidate A, you'll bring up candidate B, C, D, etc.(and visa versa) You want to force others to defend their choices and then attack their answers. You might just want to laugh at their answers or see how often you can get them to change their minds. Who they actually support is of little concern to you.

I voted Other - honest!, btw.

1. Legitimate Other: I'm A Democrat And Support All Our Dems. I Don't Feel The Need To Destroy Any.
I have not yet picked my favorite candidate and gleam much on that end from DU'ers themselves. I believe in debating with respect when it comes down to our own candidate, and that none should have to suffer vitriol equal to or even greater than what could be spewed towards the right's opponents. I think there are many things to debate within each candidate but instead of those fine points actually being debated intellectually, they are instead debated emotionally, irrationally, stubbornly, and without chance of either's argument actually yielding something substantive. I'd say we should defend our candidate passionately if we have one, but should debate others candidates on facts and weakness, rather than what at times appears like simply bitter hatred.

Personally, I never put much emotion or attention into the primaries. All I care about is that what is yielded in the end is the candidate most likely to hold their own in the arena and beat the republican to a friggin pulp. That's all I need to see. Then come general election time, all my efforts will rally behind that person to try and help them win.

2. In the 2004 primary season, most people were Love Me Love My Dogs
Gawd I hope we never go through that nightmare again, but something tells me that it's going to be even worse this season, because DU's membership has more than doubled since the 2004 primary season.

3. It was bad wasn't it?
Someone voted for kittens and didn't post a kitten :(

Oh, and 100 points for the unvarnished honesty - because love me love my dog was the norm in 2004.

10. I'm for improvements of polls by kittens.
Anything can be improved by a kitten. Unfortunately I have no pictures.

But really, I don't care about the primaries. I want a Democratic president and I will work towards that end. But I like all the democratic candidates and just can't pick a favorite. It is like trying to chose just one from a basket of kittens.

12. curious observer.
I don't have a favorite because I like them all (because they're Dem's).

I'm not looking for negatives. I ignore/filter them.

I'm looking for Presidential Ideas and attitudes, compassion and soul.

I listen to what they have to say and I'm proud to be a Democrat.

I WILL vote for one of them, I just don't know which one yet.

I haven't watched the debates or joined in on any candidate threads yet... And I don't expect to until maybe next year.
