GM gets 7,000 applications for 400 technical jobs
DETROIT — When the hiring managers at General Motors Corp. put out the word that they would hold a job fair to fill 400 new technical and engineering posts, they expected a big response.

Yes, times are tough in southeast Michigan, where all three Detroit-area automakers have cut thousands of hourly and salaried positions.

But because of the skills needed for the openings, GM didn’t think the publicity would generate as many responses as it did.

“They didn’t have a specific number in mind. However, given that a majority of these jobs are in areas where talent is in somewhat short supply, 7,000 was more than we expected,” said GM spokeswoman Brenda Rios said.

The jobs, in hybrid and diesel powertrain engineering, battery and fuel cell development, software controls, wireless technology, information systems, in-car communications and other skilled areas, are mostly in southeast Michigan.

1. But, but, the MSM has been telling us that us workers in the US
are too stupid and unskilled for good jobs and that is why they have to hire people from other countries at half the union wages.

6. Actually they've been telling us ...

They've been telling us that we do not have enough engineers so we need to up the H1-B caps. They get these numbers from CEOs who would prefer to take tech pay and put it in their pocket.

2. No surprise ...
I don't know if the rest of the country can truly understand how bad things are here.

Try to get a job in the "science" or technology field in SE Michigan ... I have a job I have truly come to despise (very ugly work environment) .... but I don't dare quit for fear I'll not find a job here

3. And they keep telling the country they need more visas for foreign engineers and workers
because they can't get enough American workers interested.

5. The insurance companies
may have to go down first, reimbursing for loses. They should be doing well right now if they are heavily invested in DJIA.
