22. Love Betty White....
...hate the fact that SNL writers are a group of sniggering teenage boys who think it's funny to feed an 88 year old woman a bunch of vagina jokes.

Pretty pathetic if you ask me. But if she's game to go along with it...c'est la vie I guess.

32. Thing is...you take out the blue...
...and there's no humor.

Betty is a great comedienne, and all they're doing is getting her to talk dirty for pure shock value. Like she was a parrot who they taught to swear or something.

Anyway...different strokes I guess.

As Sue Ann Nivens on the Mary Tyler Moore Show - or seen the episode where the whole crew visited her apartment and found her round bed. Heck, the character was introduced when she was having an affair with Phyllis' husband, Lars.

73. Betty's pretty bawdy, as these clips with Craig Ferguson show
As the accountant for the Oscars link

As Nurse Betty link

As a Salvation Army bell ringer link

As a San Quentin prison guard link

As John McCain's campaign speech writer talking about Sarah Palin link

BTW, there actually is a TVLand show called "Hot in Cleveland" starring Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick -- with Betty White in a recurring role. I imagine the SNL ad was a spoof on that show.

About her appearances on the Craig Ferguson show: "They‘ve been the most fun of any - anything I’ve done. He is just incredible. He’s a good friend. But we - the only thing is we can't ever dare make eye contact when we’re working together or we both crack up." link

83. I thought "She's a lesbian!" was one-note too.
Lazy writing, no real reason to set it in "Cleveland, Ohio, 1904," and if it's supposed to be Cleveland, why all the cornpone accents? Also gave Betty only a small chance to be funny (kind of like Judith Lowry as Mother Dexter in "Phyllis"--she was a scream).

She's all over the place and isn't as noticeable with the cue card reading as other hosts have been. I remember how disappointing it was when DeNiro hosted because he just couldn't take his eyes off the cue cards and wasn't funny at all. It must've been a long week for her, but she's doing a great job and it looks like she's really enjoying herself!

Which the best SNL performers over the years also shared, coming out of the Chicago theater improv background, which is very creatively demanding.

It's all about being on the hotspot and relying on your WITS.

60. You said it!
Nice ending! I'm glad she was able to do this and see how loved she is by so many generations of fans. The local NY news said people started camping out on Thursday to get into the show! She really did seem to be touched by all the adoration. She's such a good person. I'm happy she did it and everything went off without a hitch.

Well done, Betty!!

75. I love the monologue about Facebook
I'm paraphrasing:

"I didn't know what facebook was but now that I've heard of it, it seems like an extraordinary waste of time".

HAHAHA. And the comment about poking. Funny stuff.

84. Loved Betty, just wish they had written funnier material for her in the sketches.
She did look like she had a fantastic time.

88. No way.
No matter who hosts, they always manage to screw it up with anatomical gross-osity such as "cherry in my muffin." Sad, really. :(

And it's TASTEFUL.

Seriously, though...why must ALL of today's TV comedy have so much gross anatomy in it?

91. humor is subjective. I thought SNL with Betty was childish. But, I still thought it was funny.
I can totally understand why it upset some people. But, it's on late night tv and people can change the channel.

92. Thanks!
Seems whenever I comment about how TV isn't as good as it used to be because of all the sick humor, certain people crap on my threads.

93. I thought they went for the cheap jokes too easily too, TMB
It would be different if it were just the Muffin sketch, but every single one was really crass. Ok, ha ha, you made Grandma talk dirty, we get it. Betty's MTM character and The Golden Girls were often risque, but didn't have the hit you over the head crap that SNL did.

94.  Betty was making sex jokes on MTM in the 70s
so I don't know what you mean about "today's TV comedy."

Not everyone has the same Puritanical sense of humor that you do. I have no problem with you not liking it, but why can't we like it? Hell, Shakespeare wrote very similar jokes.
