Severe Rashes Prompt Pampers Diaper Investigation

WASHINGTON (AP) ― Government safety officials are looking into a handful of reports of severe rashes caused by new types of Pampers diapers.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission started an investigation this week following complaints of babies and toddlers suffering severe and persistent diaper rashes and blisters that resemble chemical burns.

In March, Procter & Gamble launched new versions of its Swaddlers and Cruisers diapers in the U.S. The thinner diapers use the company's Dry Max technology to replace the paper pulp previously used. Parents' groups blame the change for skin problems.

The company denies that Dry Max causes chemical burns.

"There is no evidence from the people that have called us -- or from the research that we have done -- that a single baby has experienced a skin safety issue as a result of our Pampers with Dry Max," the Cincinnati-based company said in a statement.

A Facebook page asking the company to bring back the older versions of its diapers has more than 4,000 members.

1. I wonder where Pampers are made these days.
If they've outsourced to China, there's no telling what's really in those diapers!

4. Disposable nappies
create one of the biggest waste management problems on the planet. Maybe now would be good time to stop using them completely.

7. Could just be that lots of kids are...
wearing the same diapers for hours without being changed. Thats what used to cause rashes etc.

8. I'm surprised that women aren't experiencing more problems with feminine hygiene products

sorry OT but worth thinking about. Of course babies' skin is already super sensitive and would probably react alot quicker to irritations than an adult's skin would.

I wouldn't be surprised if pads/tampons and diapers don't use the same types of materials especially the newer ultra types of products. Whose to say that any recurring problem women experience (or people suffering from incontinence) can't be blamed on those ultra dry and thin materials.

9. Anyone with a baby should look into gDiapers
Nearly as convenient as a disposable, but 100% earth friendly and FAR more convenient than traditional cloth (no big bags of smelly poopy nappies sitting around your house!) You can buy them at Whole Foods, some Babies R Us stores, and off the Internet. I really wish these things had been around when my kids were in diapers.
