May 5, 2010 12:03 PM
A state senator from Chicago today called for the White Sox to move its spring training camp out of Arizona because of that state's controversial new immigration law.
Democratic Sen. Martin Sandoval also wants to eliminate state aid to U.S. Cellular Field if the ball club does not comply, though that would be a long shot at the Capitol.
Sandoval said he sent a letter to White Sox Board of Directors Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, urging him to pull the team out of Arizona for spring training until that state repeals the new statute.
The Arizona immigration law requires law enforcement to question people about their immigration status if there's reason to suspect they're in the country illegally. It also makes it a state crime in Arizona to be in the United States illegally.
