Spill Map- Sorry, Louisiana, you're screwed.

Looks like it is going to wrap itself completely around the Delta.

10. And with the connections they have with the dick
They very well could have sabotaged this off shore drilling for the dick and his saudi friends. I know that the dick allegiance is not to the USA thats for sure.

11. He's camping out in Saudi Arabia now, isn't he?
I know it's tin foily, but Rush and Michael Brown were QUICK to suspect conspiracy theory, weren't they? Almost fits that Rovian strategy of self-sabotage, then blaming your opponent.

This couldn't be Dick's "chess move" in response to Obama opening up offshore drilling, could it?

12. I think
that the treasonous bastid is capable of anything and will do anything to make sure that President O is seen in the worst light possible. He really needs to be stopped before much longer. Surely the feds are keeping an eye on him now that he's out of office. I would bet that a phone in the cheney resident is not used but for making appointments only while being very careful to not say too much. The dick has been a thorn in the side of democracy for years now, all the way back to at least his nixon days. Arrest him, lock him up and throw away the key, if by chance he's found not guilty then and only then turn him loose.

2. Not really
There's this thing called the Mississippi River. Water flows away from the delta for a reason.

3. You might be from N'awlins, but you don't know Gulf Circulation
The Mississippi river plume flows along the coast, towards texas. Not out into the Gulf. And since the oil is in the surface layer, it tends to move more by winds than by currents anyway. A strong landwards wind will blow that stuff right onto shore across the plume.

We shall see. I hope that it doesn't spread more than it has, but it sure looks like it is moving to the west.

4. Then if by your observations water flows away from the delta
then why does the oil continue to get closer to the delta?

Apparently you have much to learn about wind and water. So Umm Yes Really!

7. I have much to learn,
and you may have the answer I'm seeking. :hi:

Doesn't the delta, by it's nature, have an ebb and flow between the fresh and the sea water? Isn't it a two way street, along the inlets and such, and the bayous further east? And if so, what will that mean in terms of the contamination?

This has been on my mind for awhile. Hope you can set me straight.

Wat

9. So many things factor in
Edited on Wed May-05-10 01:36 PM by underseasurveyor
But in a nut shell.. or sea shell;-) yes there is somewhat of an ebb and flow and mixing between the waters. Water temperature and salinity content all play a roll, but as n2doc pointed, out which is correct, oil floats and is therefore affected more by wind than by current. Current does still play a role but at the moment wind has been a major factor in pushing the oil toward land.

If and when this oil hits those bayous and gets into the delta marshes, the grasses and plants.... Let's just say the thought completely sickens me. It won't be good and it really is hard to say at the moment but it could take more than the rest of my life time for the area to recover. And that's if there are no more "accidents."

Edit: spelling
