BREAKING: Butler County, Ohio BOE Website Declared 'Under Attack:
Edited on Tue May-04-10 10:41 PM by Corey_Baker08
Breaking News From Local News Station WHIO TV out of Dayton,Ohio with this article coming from the Middletown Journal.

As you may know there were several important elections in Ohio here tonight. From the primary races between two very well respected Democratic Candidates vying for a shot at the US Senate Seat in November in which SOS Brunner lost by less than 9% of the vote, to the primary battle for the Democratic and Republican Nominations for Governor and Secretary of State. Just think if this were November and this were happening, BOE Director Claims the attack is without deliberate, which means if its deliberate on election day its obviously for an intentional purpose!

Updated 10:46 PM Tuesday, May 4, 2010

HAMILTON — The Butler County Board of Elections website is under attack from an outside source, according to Board of Elections Director Betty McGary.
Although the "attack" is delaying communication of results on the board of election's website, McGary said it is not having an impact on actual ballot counting.
“We do not think that anyone has hacked into our site, but we have crashed three servers. And in examining those servers, there are two unidentified sites that are deliberately diverting traffic.”
McGary added: “Our servers are under attack, we feel."
The board of elections' information technology department is still working on the issue, she said.
“Our IT is saying this is being done deliberately,” McGary said. “This is definitely something of a concern for us, but the votes are safe.”

1. "not having an impact on actual ballot counting."
...that they know of.

Electronic voting and tabulation is inherently insecure.

4. My Thoughts Exactly- It Sounds To Me Like They Are Declaring This B4 Even Investigating The Impact!
By Making the claim that it didn't have an effect on the counting of the votes the local BOE is more than likely just doing preventive work by declaring to the media there was no problem with the voting so that the heat of the story would die off and not make their job any harder or have to work any later. You must remember this is rural Ohio we are talking about. My area is about as hardcore Redneck Republican as they come. They believe in guns and god and this is in the heart of southern Ohio.

Just My Thoughts!

2. This is why electronic voting is a stupid idea.
Voting systems should have nothing at all to do with the internet, and damn little to do with computers.

7. I am guessing it is people checking election results
And Ms. McGary is just making excuses for the server not being able to handle the load. Or perhaps her IT people are the ones making excuses. Either way.

8. BUTLER COUNTY STRIKES AGAIN !! hahahahaha
Edited on Tue May-04-10 11:27 PM by SmileyRose

CINCINNATI — An undocumented immigrant worker who sued Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones for violating his constitutional rights has been awarded $100,000 in a settlement agreement. The settlement filed in U.S. District Court stems from the 2007 arrest of Luis Rodriguez, 44, formerly of Lebanon, when he and others were rounded by at a Port Union Road construction site by Butler County deputies and a former immigration specialist hired by Jones.

Officials said they were at the site to talk to a supervisor about undocumented workers, but Rodriguez and more than 20 others were interrogated and asked to provide identification, according to Rodriguez’s attorney, Al Gerhardstein, who posted the settlement Tuesday, April 20 on his firm’s website. Gerhardstein said his client, who had lived in Butler County for 11 years, was arrested and charged with providing a false identification and deported to Mexico, though he was later acquitted of the charge.

Rodriguez sued Jones claiming that he was “seized” when he was taken to the construction trailer at the work site for interrogation in violation of the Fourth Amendment. “There has to be probable cause for seizure by law enforcement, whether the person is a citizen or not,” Gerhardstein said Tuesday. “That didn’t happen in this case when they removed my client from where he wanted to be and took him to a place he did not want to be for interrogation.”

In addition, Gerhardstein argued that Jones did not have power to enforce the federal civil immigration law. The case was pending on motions for summary judgment and only weeks away from trial when the county agreed to pay $100,000 in settlement of the claims, Gerhardstein said.
