The Sikhs have head-wear, and while some are from far away (and not lily)white, many are locals of anglo decent who have found the religion/culture most satisfying, and sometimes wear shoes that do not match styles of the anglo hoard

Lots of Sikhs in Arizona
And Arabs
And Germans
And some Holocaust Survivors
And Brits . . .

Papers?

I don't know where the line is, but I'm pretty sure we crossed it in Arizona.

10. Not the Jewish star, but our own from the US flag, perverted to this use. That would...
... make it about us and our culture, because this is the shameful doing of a state in our own country, right now.

11. I wouldn't suggest the Jewish star.
There are a few reasons for that, but I would suggest a scarlet "L" in vein of the scarlet A. It may be to cerebral for those who suggested, supported, and passed this law, but the idea is they have basically said Latinos are "sinful" simply for being different. Another suggestion would be an upside-down American flag with "Latino/a" in one of the stripes suggesting the Latinos in the US are in distress. Of course, that could backfire and they would be un-rightfully accused of being disloyal to the US.

12. What Latinos in Arizona?
They want them gone, not identifiable.

The real question is Gila River or Poston?

Neither, Manzanar, it's out of state.

23. King of Norway or King of Denmark?
Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 07:23 AM by sl8
There's a well known, albeit apocryphal, tale that King Christian X of Denmark wore the Star of David as a sign of solidarity with Danish Jews.

26. Perhaps we're talking about two different stories.
I was referring to the tale that had King Christian wearing the star, and asking his people to follow his example, in response to a NAZI edict which required Jews in Denmark to wear the armband.

I'm pretty sure that's fictional.

The King and the Star: Myths created during the Occupation of Denmark:

I'd certainly be interested in any evidence to the contrary.

18. You really think it's only "illegals" who'll be affected by this law?
Astonishingly naive, I have to say.

I doubt that many sheriff's deputies out in bumfuck rural Arizona are inclined to make a very careful distinction between "illegal" immigrants, "legal" immigrants, and native-born citizens - they're all "illegals" (or insert an even less charitable term) in the eyes of Arpaio and his ilk.

16. You reminded my of my friend Harold who always wore a triangle saying "illegal"
It was blue. I don't know what it meant. He lost it at a doctors appointment just before he died.

He probably didn't want us fighting over the right to wear it. I loved him so much....my hero. :hi:

I should add, the Republican backers are using the Republicans to pass the Bill sort of like a suicide bomber in class warfare, they divert attention from primary races, and financial regulation, and hope to stir up racial disharmony.
