1. Generation Suck

Married right out of high school or right out of the service, missed the 60s, hated hippies, and raised Gen X to hate them too. Might have gotten a college education (the sign's spelled correctly), worked a job he didn't like much but was lost when it ended at 65, doesn't know what to do with himself in a world that doesn't need him any more, and is terrified watching his house value and portfolio value decline. Thinks he did it all by himself and doesn't recognize the unpaid labor of his wife or the barely paid labor of marginal workers as being his support system.

He likes Pox News because Glen Beck gives him a handy place to put all his anger.

to me but I am a liberal and active Democrat in a red state. I hear people sitting in McDonald's, even the ones in Wal-Mart, and they all sound like tea-baggers to me. I want to scream at the old men and their disheveled women that they are crazier than Beck. But of course that is counter-productive so instead I am very nice and polite. and when I can I slip in that I am a liberal then walk away noticing the dropped jaws. My actions make a lie of what they have been told but faux. Just a little cognitive dissonance and it feels great.

other folk seem too proud to do. They don't want sit at the front of a store all day smiling or packing boxes down at The Center. Like they've got something better to do!!!! Pansies! I've worked for everything I've got, and I keep on working. Over twenty hours some weeks. Mom even makes me pay electric and water as well as rent every month. 'No B.S. about it,' she says. . . . I'm with her."

were all sharp so I thought I had it licked. But then some words were too big to go on the board so I ruined about four posters til I thought of using small letters for the big words or when I was running out of space. And I asked the night shift attendent for another poster but he said I ruined too many already but when he wasn't looking I grabbed one from the pile and snuck back to my room and did this one with only the lights from the hall shining in. . . . Like I say, it wasn't easy. But that's free speech for you."
