Judge Napolitano: Arizona Immigration law will ‘bankrupt the Republican Party’
After Fox News analysts spent most of Friday defending Arizona's bill to target illegal immigrants, Judge Andrew Napolitano offered a different take on the controversial measure, Crooks and Liars reported.

When asked about Gov. Jan Brewer, Napolitano said her signing of the bill into law will have disastrous consequences:

Napolitano: She's gonna bankrupt the Republican Party and the state of Arizona. Look at what happened to the Republicans in California with the proposition --

Cavuto: What happens?

Napolitano: Ah, Hispanics -- who have a natural home in the Republican Party because they are socially conservative -- will flee in droves. She's also gonna bankrupt her state, because no insurance company will provide coverage for this. And for all the lawsuits that will happen -- for all the people that are wrongfully stopped -- her budget will be paying for it. Her budget will be paying the legal bills of the lawyers who sue on behalf of those that were stopped.

This will be a disaster for Arizona -- to say nothing of the fact that it's so unconstitutional that I predict a federal judge will prevent Arizona from enforcing it as soon as they attempt to do so. That will probably be tomorrow.

4. madokie! Nice to see you. Happy springtime.
I am ashamed for Governor Brewer, inasmuch as she likely won't feel any shame herself.

I'm ashamed and disgusted with her.

hell of a lot taller than Arizona's.

Keep up the good work!

5. Agree. May this be the most contentious of weeks for the staff in
Governor Brewer's office.

I hope they lose their minds, such as they are, over the torrent of difficulties their boss has bought into.

13. He's correct about bankrupting the state. Who pays?
For the training seminars for law enforcement?

Overtime for policing demonstrations?

Extra law enforcement for the War on Illegals?

Detention time?

Paperwork to sort the country of origin? Mexico, Guatemala, etc?

Staff to prepare for the return of illegals to country of origin?

Return of illegals?

Lawsuits of citizens illegally detained?

Lost revenue from those deciding to by-pass an Arizona vacation?

Without a funding mechanism, it will bankrupt the state.

23. They went for the jugular headline and left the details & followup to others,
evidently.

Kind of a Reagan / Bush trick.

The GOP's speciality.

25. I want to see all those transplants cleaning their own pools, mowing
their lawns and washing their windows, or better yet, paying a citizen to do the work.

What I find here is that those that complain about all the illegals are the first to hire an illegal that is uninsured and unlicensed. Rather a strange disconnect.

6. The new law stinks, but
it is better to have the racists that passed and signed the bill repeal it, than have a single judge order them to do so.

Wait until the tourism engine slows down - the shit will hit the fan then.

12. In Maricopa County due to Arpaio Lawsuits
the insurance premium is 5 million a year and based on his record we are lucky to get that "good" of a rate. Now I am betting we will lose any coverage and once more the taxpayers will be forced to pick up the bill and a base of taxpayers that are already griping about taxes for such silly stuff as funding education, and such. Yeah it is sick that education seems to be silly here, but it seems to be the idea. With this law, which I doubt ever gets enforced as the Judge said, the taxpayers will see taxes go up and when they find out dear Joe and this law is responsible, then maybe it will wake up our libertarian leaning friends to the realities of their stupidity.

11. OFW...
To those Arizona DU'ers who are pleading with those of us who travel or do business with Arizona not to boycott. No Sale on this end. Sorry. While I'd love to spend another year at Spring Training or visit the Grand Canyon and have many friends in that state, the fact is the state has enacted a totalitarian law that, besides being unconstitutional, demostrates a mindset I can not support in any form or fashion.

Yes there is a problem with illegal immigration but it's not with those trying to cross the border to feed their families, but the corporates on both sides who have exploited these people and continue to do so. Let's send the INS after those who hire the UNDOCUMENTED workers THEY hire and in some cases pay for their transit. Fine those who hire an undocummented worker $1,000 per day per worker and we'll see how quick this problem begins to dry up. Then put a VAT or other tax on American corporations that outsource to Mexico...the difference between the wages in that country vs. what the same job would pay in this country.

There's an economic component here that is totally ignored by those who are more interested in hating Mexicans than looking at the real root cause of this situation.

17. I for one won't be begging you
Unfortunately there are enough travelers who are sympathetic to the new law or who just don't care. I don't predict a drop off in the number of people visiting the Grand Canyon or spending the month of March here for Spring Training. The annual fleet of RVs arriving for the winter won't stop because of this law.
My guess is that most of the visitors who stay at our Scottsdale resorts are Republicans anyway. Just sayin'

19.  I'm Standing With You!
Most definitely! If there's an initiative to repeal this repulsive law (and the possible birther one), I'll be donating and doing what I can from a distance to elect more Democrats and encourage family and friends to do so. I am very sympathetic to DU'ers and my many good friends (almost all Democrats) who live in Arizona. The state survived Evan Mecham and will overcome this as well. I've seen a growth in the Democratic party in your lovely state...and in many ways, this is a last gasp from a dying "majority" as change overwhelms them. I will definitely look forward to a sweet return...hopefully sooner than later and with the satisfaction that this evil law has been repealed and a new majority has arisen in the Valley of the Sun.

Cheers...

and punishing the employers who exploit them, rather than punishing those trying to make a better life for themselves. Starve the Beast, I say!

42. its going to cost the state a fortune in legal fees too
any place that has tried this trash on a smaller scale has spent tons on lawsuits that they
ultimately lost.

Arizona will also get killed on tourism, as ethical companies refuse to hold conferences there.
