Doonesbury does it again!
I believe that Garry Trudeau is a national treasure. It's a shame that those who could learn from this 'toon will never read it -- "dincha know that Trudeau is a commie-pinko librul!"

3. Just to fuck with people, Trudeau should do a strip one week that makes sense....
whether you read it across-then-down *or* down-then-across.

Bonus points for degree of difficulty, of course.

4. I've been a fan of his forever. Sometimes his strip is the best place to get the real news.

6. Not true...
That is scarcely the "founding document of the modern hate-speech movement." That movement can be traced back to Joe McCarthy in the 1950s, but was really carried forward by his pupil, Richard Nixon, twenty years later. It was Nixon who popularized the "label your opponents as traitors" strategy, and who brought us Pat Buchanan, Lee Atwater, and Karl Rove, all of whom were instrumental in resuscitating Nixon's approach with the Reagan and Bush 41 administrations throughout the '80s. Gingrich was merely a hanger-on -- the movement was well in place long before him.

7. Cotton Mather set the standard for American hate speech, cloaked in NE piety
While Newt put something of an "academic" gloss on these efforts, hate speech is to the core of American politics, since colonial days. Cotton Mather is at the core of it.
