Here's who to contact about boycotting AZ: Tourism, Convention and Chamber leaders:

I'll wager if some major organizations yank their conventions out of AZ, the business leaders will go screaming to their legislators to overturn this bill. Here are emails and phones for all the key people you can contact who handle media, communications and PR for the travel and tourism industry in AZ. Please kick and recommend so others can see this, and post in comments below once you've contacted the AZ people listed below.

Thanks a lot.It isn't as though a lot of us haven't tried to prevent this. What do you want us to do? We can't afford to move.

10. Did you support the boycott of FL during the Bush-Gore recount fiasco?
Or boycotting Ohio during the next stolen election?

When governments infringe outrageously on human rights or our democracy, a boycott can sometimes be an effective way to turn things around. Boycotts have been effective against major corporations such as GM, have helped push responsbility on things like dolphin-safe tuna, won victories for labor (ie the grape strike) and pushed through civil rights (the bus boycott). In each of those, arguably some people got hurt short term but the longer term victories were worth the effort in most folks' eyes.

Hopefully if there is a massive boycott and public outcry around the world, AZ will retract its vicious policies soon and there won't be a need for its economy to suffer very long.

15. No I didn't. Most residents of those states weren't responsible.
Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris should have been held accountable for Florida and Ken Blackwell in Ohio.A boycott of an impoverished state that doesn't even have tourism anymore and one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation as well as the second highest foreclosure rates does nothing. Arizona, whether we like what it did or not is still part of the United States. The thing to do would be to join in a lawsuit to question the constitutionality of 1070. That would be the correct thing to do.

A really productive thing to do would be to support our current Democratic Attorney General Terry Goddard who is running for governor and elect him so we can once again have the veto pen to override these bastards. That and help elect a Dem legislature and Senate. You can't send Terry money as he is running clean but you can come here and walk for him.You can send money to Andrei Cherni, who is running for Treasurer and Sam Wercinski who is running Sec. of State. They are running traditionally.

43. Well, I disagree with you. Legislators are elected by the
people. The people of Arizona have a very direct role in the decisions made by their elected representatives. If you send bigots and birthers to the legislator, expect a backlash. Why should anyone want to go to Arizona now? I will not give support to bigotry. Arizonans need to join this century and leave the 19th behind.

I HATE this bill...I also hate to see so many suffer because of it.

Damn shame the only way to change minds anymore is through their bank accounts....problem is, the little people take the biggest hit first. What position does that leave any of us in to help fight this mess??

17. The people targeted in the bill Brewer signed are also innocent, also
hard-working, also decent, also deserving of the same respect anybody else should get, with or without "papers."

Boycotts are effective and they are a non-violent means of making a State's Legislature and Governor feel the consequences of their bigotry.

21. Somehow I feel voting them out is more effective. You don't
understand how the AZ GOP thinks. If you boycott, they will blame the Dems for it and it will charge up their base. Thats the way it works. We have to charge up the Democratic base not give the GOP ammo.

22. Try considering the two topics as separate. You are meshing them
together and pretending it's an either-or construct.

It is anything but.

There is a consequence to public gestures of denigration and bigotry, and the issue at hand is how to make Gov. Brewer accountable for her cowardly support for that racist legislation.

23. But the boycott doesn't do that. Making sure she is replaced with a Dem does.
The boycott hurts no one but the poor. Who do you think does those jobs that won't be available? The rich will merely go elswhere. But you will hurt state revenue and city revenue and they have already cut back services to the bone so what will happen is they will offer no services to the poor.

24. A boycott would most certainly do that. Just as a boycott reversed
the segregationist public transport policies of the Montgomery, Alabama bus system in 1955 when Martin Luther King led that boycott.

Supporting Democratic candidates in Arizona is a very good thing. I'm sure we're all for it.

I also support a boycott, and a fierce one.

30. How can you make sure she is replaced with a Democrat
if there is no public outrage, with consequences, for what she has done? Passive responses to these kinds of outrageous human rights violations simply do not work. Maybe some residents of Az who don't bother to vote, when they see the consequences of her actions, will wake up and realize, their help is needed.

Sorry, I get what you're saying, but I see laws that we were told before would be dealt with if only we elected more Democrats, still on the books. Not only on the books, but in some cases even being strengthened at worst, or ignored, now that we have a Dem. majority. Electing Dems hasn't proven to be all that effective at restoring Habeaus Corpus, rescinding the vile MCA, ending spying on the American people, closing the torture chambers and ending torture as a policy.

So, while in the past I used to think that electing Democrats would be the solution to many of these problems, I don't believe that at all anymore. This is way beyond just electing Democrats. This law has taken the country back decades, and could, if a lesson is not taught and learned, spread to other states. So, it's not just about Az, or Democrats. Quite frankly I'm hoping that if the consequences are severe enough, we won't have to wait for an election to end this, those bigots who instituted the law, will change it themselves.

38. To stop something like this, I am willing to take the consequences
or as some people are now doing, mostly those who will suffer under the bill, leave. The consequences for those who will be hounded are far too serious for this country to simply hope that an election would solve the problem. Az already has a pretty awful human rights record and having a Democratic Governor, (while I was there) didn't stop Joe Arpaio and his gang of criminals. This will take far more than electing a few politicians to stop.

Businesses are planning to leave the state already and many Hispanics are planning to do the same thing. I don't blame them. I don't think people would move to a state or a country where they know they are in danger of being rail-roaded by the authorities.

The best way to end this, is to make sure that the authorities are shamed so badly that no one will even consider doing something like this again.

Sometimes people have to be willing to take some consequences in order to make everyone's life better. We went along with the 'wait 'til we have more Democrats' for nearly ten years. During that time, many human beings were tortured, were deprived of their human rights and now, those laws are 'settled' so firmly in our system that it will take far longer, if ever, to change them, than it would had people not placed their hopes in elections.

41. Having caused financial "consequences" by depleting our incomes to run for office twice
I absolutely refuse to believe my having to give up absolutely everything in order to "leave" will result in a better life for others. And I really object to others being willing make that decision for me. We can't afford to live elsewhere or move yet you suggest we somehow should be happy to do so. Sorry but my family has to come first at some point and it isn't fair that those of us who have sacrificed and worked hard to prevent this from happening should be "punished" for our efforts.

20. Rather than Boycott - why don't you HELP us instead? Nobody voted for this POS Governor, she was
what we got when Obama took the Democratic Governor that we elected, Janet Napolitano. Napolitano vetoed almost the identical bill when she was in office.

We have a great Dem candidate running for Governor in November, why don't you send him a few bucks rather than punish my state more than it's already being punished? There are alot of great progressives that live in this state too.

Was Sec Napolitano supposed to be your governor for life? This isn't about her. It sounds like AZ would have done this as soon as she left office anyway, no matter when the time came. I support a boycott, and the bigger the better.

Some people may suffer in the short term, but the long term benefits will improve the lives of everyone involved. This horrible law has much farther reaching effects than just AZ, but AZ needs to be made an example of.

27. There's nothing at his site about this bill and this seems to be his statement
from Friday:

"The bill the Governor just signed does nothing to secure our border or make us safer from the cartel violence behind most border crime," Goddard said. "We need stronger penalties against illegal entry, and I have made specific recommendations to the President for real federal border reform."
