Undocumented immigrant dies trying to put out fire in Arizona home, two other homes catch on fire
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 10:19 PM by RB TexLa
as a result. Why did the gentleman not call 911 and have the fire department put out the fire in his house? Because with the fire trucks come police cars.

I'm glad that my republican Texas suburb hometown and my Democratic hometown in Louisiana both understand this and are sanctuary cities where officials are barred from asking such.

Edited: This isn't based on a news story but what can and does happen when people feel they can't call emergency services.

1. This is going to be horrible for public safety.
Probably for public health, too.

But the Republicans will raise campaign $$$.

3. Is that what the gentleman said?
Did he say that he didn't call 911 because he was afraid the police would come as well? If so, that's really sad for everyone involved. Without a link, tough to call.

6. Stuff like this does happen. My grandmother's caretaker was raped
and she didn't report it out of fear. She lived with us until my grandmother passed away. Her kid was about four by then. I don't have a link.

9. Understood, and I'm sorry. However the OP is reporting something
third party from MANY miles away without a link to the story. I'm just curious.

15. So you're saying we'll see countless folks acting in such selfless fashion
that they lose their lives just because they don't want to dial 911?

Another bookmark for my archive. Sheer brilliance.

16. There have been many times undocumented immigrants have died or suffered due to not
calling 911, it's the reason sanctuary cities created that distinction.

24. You don't find it odd that you remember what someone you don't know posted on the internet years
ago? Or that you remember the stranger's username? Really, you don't think that is bizarre?

Odd you'd find it strange, since there are many who have done so in your regards.

18. Authoritarian systems have to turn to war to argue security issues.
If they can start turmoil and strife, then they can get people to want a strong authoritarian as a leader.

You could make the same argument that Iran wants strife from the outside to get people away from thinking of agendas that will move them from the reactionary ruling group. And that group was put in power by an outside influence and strict dictatorship.

With authoritarians losing control, they turn to needing war and strife, race strife is one way to do that. I think trying to keep the race and even gay issues in the headlines, is part of the Republican strategies, even if it creates racial tension.

After the 60's turmoil at the Democratic Convention, conservative America wanted someone to give them normalcy, and they were willing to go to the more security state Republican ideas.

It in not anything new, it is just getting more extreme as they get more desperate.

If they could create much social strife, they could argue that things like removing the bill of rights, and other control methods are needed for peoples protection. And they could get people to think it is the incumbents that cause the problems.

Using the immigrants to do this is not an old thing, it has been done by many cultures, find a common enemy for some segment of your base, then use that to create strife.

I think we should fight the legislation because it is unconstitutional, but don't let it feed into the old idea of making us think one group against another.
