Merkel: Leaving Afghanistan Could Spark 2nd 9/11

BERLIN, April 22 (UPI) -- Pulling out of Afghanistan too soon could lead to a terrorist attack more devastating than 9/11, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday.

"The international community has pledged to work together in Afghanistan, that can only be ended by mutual agreement," she said in a speech before Germany's lower house of Parliament. "To do otherwise -- I am convinced -- would have consequences far more devastating than the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001."

About 3,000 people died Sept. 11, 2001, when four U.S. jetliners were hijacked. Two were crashed into the twin towers at New York's World Trade Center and another was smashed into the Pentagon outside Washington. The fourth crashed in Pennsylvania when passengers tried to take control from the hijackers.

2. What a dumb statement. What could Afghanistan do that would be more harmful

then 911? They didn't have jack shit to do with it to begin with. They have no modern military or capable weapon of mass destruction. If another 911 happens, it is because we let it happen. I do agree that we should stay there though. This is a major and recent reversal on my position on that war.

Bin laden died in 2002. The Taliban are a bunch of fucking punks. They aren't going to pull off another 9/11.

I'm so torn on this! I'm anti-war, but have despised the Taliban since before 9/11.

I first heard of them when they blew up the ancient Buddha statues, and when the chimp sent them 43 million to stop growing opium.

Months before 9/11, I was in touch with a SF Bay Area Afghan Activist after writing a letter to the SF Chronicle, where I was raging about the Taliban. He wanted me to help him organize a protest against the Taliban and Pakistani ISI, who were working together in Afghanistan. Then 9/11 happened, and I lost touch with him.

I support a NATO action (not just the US) in that country, due to my hatred of the Taliban and their treatment of women, and teachers, and all the rest of their brutality. I wish the NATO forces could wipe the mutherfuckers out.

I suppose there would be a whole new generation of them to take the place of the ones we get rid of though. I hate this fucking planet! (sometimes) :banghead:

“I believe they feel a sense of outrage against the United States. They identify with the Palestinian problem; they identify with people who oppose oppressive regimes, and I believe they tend to focus their anger on the United States.”
