African-Americans ‘don’t have a reason’ to vote Republican.

Why should an African-American vote Republican?

“You really don’t have a reason to, to be honest — we haven’t done a very good job of really giving you one. True? True,” Republican National Chairman Michael Steele told 200 DePaul University students Tuesday night. <…>

“For the last 40-plus years we had a ‘Southern Strategy’ that alienated many minority voters by focusing on the white male vote in the South. Well, guess what happened in 1992, folks, ‘Bubba’ went back home to the Democratic Party and voted for Bill Clinton.”

1. I'm surprised he was truthful
Usually the excuse from Republicans as to why they don't get black votes is because the Democrats have programmed black people to vote for them and poisoned them against Republicans.

2. Steele better be careful. The RNC doesn't like it when their minions tell the truth.
Did Rush, Hannity or Beck ever profit from telling the truth? Does Sarah Palin?

Amazing what happens when you fall out of favor with the RNC.

4. If you are female, gay, or poor
you don't have much reason to vote for them either. Leaves out a whole lot of people, doesn't it?

6. Oh dear. Steele went off the reservation and told the truth.
His enemies are NOT going to like this.

7. Did somebody put truth serum in his water? Now, is he gonna admit that
everything ELSE about the Republican party sucks, too? Like their economic policy and their foreign policy and their environmental policy and their health care policy?

*snort*

As IF they have any coherent policies to begin with, even BAD ones. I haven't seen anything that even remotely addressed reality from them since Nixon was in office.

8. I think Steele is doing a fantastic job! For the Democrats, that is.
Sometimes, I think he must be a mole, undermining the repukes for the Democrats.

10. His explanation makes no sense...
They appealed to white male racists with their "culture war" shit, which had nothing to do with actual policy, it had to do with getting elected. Their actual policies haven't helped anyone but the rich, while their propaganda has been aimed at whites and the elderly, who are both the majority and vote in the highest numbers, so it makes sense. Of course, the numbers are changing, and many whites don't buy the bullshit.

I don't want to hear about how Republican's propaganda hasn't been aimed at African Americans. I want to hear about how their policies haven't been aimed at African Americans, or anyone who is not rich in general.

11. I think he's fed up.
He probably became a repub based on ideas of fiscal responsibility and then found out that that meant that this party only felt responsible for old, white, rich men. I think he's finally seen the light and has decided to just tell the truth. What's he got to lose? He already knows he won't keep his job much longer. He might as well go down fighting so he can walk away with a smidgen of dignity.
