Father placed 1 year old in a bath tub full of scalding hot water
CLINTON, MS (WLBT) - The Hinds County Sheriff's Department is investigating a disturbing case of child abuse in Clinton.

The little girl injured is identified as one-year-old Komara Wooten. Investigators said she was burned by her father, who placed her in a tub full of hot water.

Thirty-one-year-old Jerry Lamont Wooten of Clinton was arrested last Friday and charged with one count of felony child abuse. He was in Hinds County Court Tuesday for his initial appearance.

The sheriff's department said the abuse happened at the Shadow Brook Apartments in Clinton last Monday. Wooten was taking care of his daughter Komara Wooten, and her twin sister, when the one-year-old suffered second degree burns to the lower half of her body.

His bond was set at $25,000. That means he can get out for only $2,500. This pisses me off so badly. That poor little baby girl.

2. It's not looking that way. He is claiming that though.

According to the news around here, it was no accident. We'll see. The burns indicate that she was held in the water. I am sure she started screaming bloody murder as soon as she was put in the water.

She has 2nd degree burns on the bottom half of her body, and is currently in a burn unit. That is seriously hot water.

20. If he held her in the water,
he should be severely, severely, SEVERELY punished. I cannot imagine that.

I was bathing my 4-month old son several weeks ago, and accidentally got the water a little to hot. He screamed as soon as his foot touched the water and I yanked him out and cooled the water down big time. I have a hard, hard time seeing how she could get 2nd-degree burns in an accident.

3. personally speaking, as a father of 3,
not likely an accident.

as i'm drawing the bath i am constantly checking the temp. constantly. just in the likely chance the water temp increases or drops due to faucets being turned on, or toilets flushing, another shower going, etc.

i can't imagine it being an accident. if it is it's by far one of the biggest examples of neglect you can imagine. you'd have to be either a giant asswad of an idiot, or do it intentionally.

that's my 2 cents.

4. Exactly. You have to really monitor the temp of the bath water.
IT seems as though he had the hot on full blast for it to cause 2nd degree burns.

I've been bathing my daughter since she was an infant and the first thing i did was lower the temp control on the water heater to try and avoid any such accidents. I'm thinking this asscabbage either did it on purpose, was under the influence or is a major dumbass. Any way, he needs to sit in jail for a good long time and think about what he did. :grr:

6. If I were him, I'd stay in jail and not post bond because
there are some really pissed off people around here about this case. I am not advocating violence, but not everyone is like me. Just sayin'.

13. I got that. I added what I did because people need to understand the long-term effects.
Especially those who don't want to fund supportive services.

15. That is pretty much a foregone conclusion. But she will need a lot of therapy and loving care
to overcome this.

It isn't done when her physical wounds are healed.

Not by a long shot.

And if she is bounced from foster home to foster home, the inner wounds will be set in cement. Probably for a lifetime. :nuke:

16. I believe she has a twin sister. The father has 5 kids.
Not sure if it is all the same mother, but I haven't heard anything about the mother of this child.

18. I understand that. I am concerned about her emotional recovery, not how many siblings there are.

19. My point was that if she is taken to foster care, she'd likely be
separated from her twin, and that would be doubly traumatic for her.
