Joe Scar Tissue just said on air that we should spend a trillion on light rail
saying that he was against the stimulus from the start but he would have been in favor of a 2 trillion dollar package that builds a light rail system across the country as an investment in the next generation.

OK, I'm in......

Let's put forward a trillion dollar package for light rail, we need the jobs anyways.

This is Bipartisanship I can believe in

he said almost exactly what I wrote

that he would have been in favor of a 2 trillion dollar stimulus package if it had been targeted toward building light rail as an investment in the next generation

5. Frankly, I'm against light rail. I would perfer street cars with over head lines.
faster to set up, cheaper to install, quicker to serve the public.

6. In Boston and San Francisco, that's exactly what the Light Rail is!
Oh, it runs in tunnels (subways) in the densest parts
of those two cities, but for much (most?) of its mileage,
it's running as a streetcar.

I live in austin and our half ass city council is ramming through "light rail" which requires tracks.

That to me, isn't light rail.

I have ridden both the Boston and San Francisco lines. Both are wonderful.

I write every month and go to the city meetings trying to get them to change their minds, but like everything here in Texas, it's all about who makes the money on the deal. They are in the process of trying to get a fed money to help pay for the new leg of our "light rail". From downtown to the airport. 24 million per mile!!! I weep for our future.

austin is in such a rush to go "green" that I wonder sometimes, what type green are the talking about exactly?

8. Well, in all fairness, in Boston, the "D" line does have...
...some dedicated surface trackway (out past
Kenmore), but I *THINK* they acquired that from
a defunct railway company. But all in all, in Boston,
they run the LRV cars on a complete mix of subway,
streetcar, and dedicated right-of-way, all powered from
a 600V trolley wire.
