11 years ago today, Columbine High School in Colorado erupted with gunfire.
Eleven years ago, 13 people — 12 students and a teacher — were killed at Columbine High School by two other students who intended to destroy the school. Columbine High will not have classes today. A memorial to the victims is open to the public on the southeastern edge of Clement Park just west of the Jefferson County school.

Remember, always remember.

2. I'll never forget it. Friends of my son were trapped inside for hours.
It's been a long road to recovery for all those kids who were there that day and the families of those who were killed.

8. Wally Lamb's last book, The Hour I First Believed
had Columbine in it. Although it was a work of fiction, the main character's wife was a school nurse and the traumatic event seriously fucked her up. Lamb did a lot of research and I imagine many of the facts were absolutely true. It was riveting.

3. Never forget the root causes.
Bullying, Gated communities and juveniles fed adult psychotropic pharmaceuticals.

10. Not true
The root causes were that Eric Harris was a sadistic psychopath, and that Dylan Klebold was a suicidal depressive who didn't get help in time.

11. As someone who actually dated
girls/Women that attended Columbine in the early 90's. Before the massacre. I can tell you, you are Way off the mark.

Dylan and Eric BOTH were fed mood altering drugs before puberty.

as well as the Cliques in that school were defined by whom lived behind a wall and who did not.

Timmy Mcveigh also was influenced by having been bullied.

12. Thank you. After reading the book "Columbine" by David Cullen
I was irritated at how we were played by the media. Listening to the interviews of those who were there, my anger at the media is exacerbated.

4. And the idiot pundits blamed videogames rather then deal with bullying.
While the Authoritarians used it as an excuse to turn schools into prisons.

7. I waited with my colleagues at a local emergency room for the casualties to arrive
They never did. Columbine sat there cold, dark and full of the bodies of our children, and no one was allowed inside. Or out. Until well into the next day. Very creepy.
