Yesterday, a U.S. District Judge in Wisconsin ruled that the annual National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional.

"It goes beyond mere 'acknowledgment' of religion because its sole purpose is to encourage all citizens to engage in prayer, an inherently religious exercise that serves no secular function in this context," wrote Judge Barbara Crabb, who said the Day of Prayer violates the First Amendment's establishment clause, which bans the creation of a "law respecting an establishment of religion" in the Constitution.

1. I delivered a homily last week in the two churches of my parish
explaining why I oppose and decline to participate in the National Day of Prayer; why it is unconstitutional, why Jefferson, Madison, et.al. opposed prayer proclamations and the Biblical data in favor of secularism. I raised a shit storm.

It's amazing how the same people who scream about the federal government involving itself in health care desperately want government intrusion in matters of conscience and religious practice.

2. No sane President is going to alienate millions of delusional voters who think there is a deity
running the universe. No president has that kind of courage either.
