BREAKING: McConnell Has The 41 Votes Needed To Block Wall Street Reform
The dems really need to go at this and really drill them on this

“Mitch McConnell has rounded up the necessary votes to block Democrats from bringing Wall Street reform to the Senate floor, a spokesman for the Senate Minority Leader said on Friday afternoon.

Senate Majority Leader Harry (D-Nev.) said on Thursday he planned to bring the bill to the floor next week where it would be debated and amendments added. McConnell has now persuaded 41 Republicans to vote against debating reform.”…cont…

“Reid spokesman Jim Manley told HuffPost that Reid will be moving ahead regardless.

"Congratulations. I hope they feel good," said Manley. "They've got 41 signatures on a weak, watered-down letter that simply calls for more negotiations. If they are at all serious, they will simply let us go to the bill next week and let the amendment process begin.

Manley said the bill will be brought up for a vote on a motion to proceed to debate later this coming week.”…cont…

14. That's got to be the talking point - "Republicans are defending Goldman Sachs"
Make the teabaggers hate the Republican senators as well as everyone else.

33. Good point
They can't 'stop' a bill; all they can do is delay it by filibustering. Provided Dems show some SPINE and "make 'em STAND UP AND TALK". Good point.

2. This couldn't be a bigger slam dunk....
...a VAST majority of the country hates wall street and the financial industry. The republicans are standing with the only group more hated than the insurance industry. All Dems need to do is shout from every rooftop and hammer the fact that the republicans are standing with wall street and we are standing with the american people.

They won't though because that would be not nice and someone might get their feelings hurt.

As always, I'd like to be proven wrong. But I don't think I will be.

Unfortunately, they're mind-bogglingly stupid and blame the financial meltdown on homeowners.

4. How is this weasel going to play this?
Will he continue to use the discredited "bailout" meme? Or has Frank Luntz come up with another total fabrication?

see the letter at the link, it's the same Luntz stuff, which Judd Gregg called over-the-top. But I guess Gregg's going along with it now.

13. The GOP can
do whatever they want to hurt Americans as long as Fox, Palin, and Rush spin it in the opposite direction. There is a line at the end of the movie, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance" - "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend". The GOP lives by that line. If they say it enough, people will believe it.

Then, while they are reading the phone book for hours to protect Wall Street, hammer them in the press in the harshest language possible.

Democrats: Reigning in Banks, Stopping "Too Big To Fail", Protecting Global Economy

Republicans: We have to kill reform in order to reform the financial industry.

Second, bring it on. Repubs defend banks. Dems defend people. I can see who wins here. The only weak spot is the Dems weak communication team.

30. I say we let the GOP filibuster. The more they oppose based on lies, the worse they look.
If the best they can come up with is Mitch McConnell saying financial regulation will cause more bailouts, I say let 'em! We'll see how long they stay unified...

For dems other than Obama to get out there to beat the drum. Mayors, senators, congressmen all of them. The only one he didn't mention was the DNC. Perhaps he forget they're there.
