Taxes show inequality toward LGBT community
by Andrea Bolt

Tax day hardly ever draws elated responses from anyone. However, the real victims of April 15 belong to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

So much is unfair concerning the U.S. tax system and same-sex married couples that it is almost comical, but unfortunately, this situation is a grim-faced and hard reality for many LGBT members.

Tax season is a sad reminder for same-sex couples of the ridiculous and outrageous double standards they face in the eyes and policies of the government.

1. yup
When I lived in Massachusetts, the state had a lot of language in the tax forms along the lines of, "You may be married-filing-jointly for our purposes, but the feds don't care."

2. omg the comments sometimes anger me
I replied:
Brian, firstly no one is asking for "extra privileges" at all! People want EQUAL rights, and that should not even be something someone can argue against in the 21st century!

Secondly, do you really think it is a choice? If so, why do so many young people choose to be beaten (sometimes to death!) and ostracized from their families and friends? Did you make a conscious choice as to who you are attracted to, or did it just happen?

How dare you or anyone else decry that someone else has made a "wrong" lifestyle choice if it involves consenting adults? It's none of your business, and history will be on my side not yours, just as people used the same arguments against civil rights for non-white people.

3. Great response
but I doubt that the one you are responding to will garner much understanding from it. Hatred and bigotry and excellent blinders to truth...obviously why the GOP has capitalized on just those emotions for several election cycles now.
