Official Military Poster calling the media a threat--wired news

http://blog.wired.com/defense/2007/05/army_milbloggin.html

To the Army's 1st Information Operations Command, the "media" is just another threat -- along with "al Qaeda," "hackers," and "drug cartels." Military bloggers are even lower than that: just poor saps looking for a "therapeutic" way to get out their feelings. No wonder the Army has put out new rules that could very well kill the sites off.

But it's really worth checking out the Information Operation Command's whole presentation on "OPSEC in the Blogosphere," obtained by Steven Aftergood's Secrecy News. ......

2. There's no greater "threat" than that the truth should get out to the people

With our corporate sanitized media, however, I can't imagine what he's so worried about.

4. yes the media is a threat to the military of course
they're talking about OPSEC, operational security, meaning keeping their plans secret so enemies can't find out. Loose lips sink ships.

5. what enemy?
the US spends almost as much as the rest of planet put together, and this after one of its greatest presidents warned about the danger of military industrial complex getting too powerful (cuz they, in effect, busily re-program the economy with military spending the major, often their only, factor)...only a generation ago, before st regain came along, $100 billion military spending was seen as OBSCENE! today, a $trillion budget is more then likely...
greed run wild
-------
<snip>
World military expenditure in 2005 is estimated to have reached $1,001 billion at constant (2003) prices and exchange rates, or $1,118 billion in current dollars;
This corresponds to 2.5 per cent of world GDP or an average spending of $173 per capita;
World military expenditure in 2005 presents a real terms increase of 3.4 per cent since 2004, and of 34 per cent over the 10-year period 1996–2005;
The USA, responsible for about 80 per cent of the increase in 2005, is the principal determinant of the current world trend, and its military expenditure now accounts for almost half of the world total; <snip>
