Justice Breyer has advice for Obama court nominee

Justice Stephen Breyer
Nominated by William J. Clinton on May 17, 1994
Nominated at age 55, sworn in on 08/02/1994
Length of Service: 15 years, 8 months, 12 days
71 Years Old

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is giving out advice for anyone hoping to be his newest colleague.

Breyer spoke at Duke University Law School in North Carolina on Wednesday and said the best way for nominees to get through the Senate confirmation process is to listen to senators' questions and try to not to get clever with their answers.

Breyer, who has been on the court since 1994, also talked about topics ranging from his childhood to how he approaches the law.

The confirmation process is set to begin this summer after Justice John Paul Stevens retires. Breyer says he'll be sorry to see the veteran judge go.

5. His dissent in Bush V. Gore, blocking indefinite detention in his opinion in Zadvydas v. Davis,
among a couple but more so where he ends up on the side of opinions:

Like in Citizen's United.
