I've made up my mind: we shouldn't boycott TLC over "Sarah Palin's Alaska"
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 01:12 PM by jmowreader
Reports indicate SPA is going to be run without commercial interruption, which is done in three instances: when the subject of the program is so important it can't be interrupted, when it's on a channel like HBO that charges subscription fees, and when they can't find anyone to put their ads on even if the time's free. In the case of SPA, it's obviously the last because we certainly aren't going to hear anything like an explanation of why Palin was all for the Gravina Island Bridge until the federal government asked Alaska to share the cost of building it.

On edit: The reason we should not boycott TLC over this is because it may be the last we see of Sarah. This is one of the most hyped shows of the year, and after the first time it runs the network is going to be thinking, "do we run Sarah Palin's Alaska, or do we preempt it for a Shamwow infomercial? Ah fuck it, we can't find the Shamwow tape, throw in Sarah. No one watches this shit at two in the morning anyway." The rest of the television industry pays attention to things like paying someone a quarter-million per episode for something only the most devout Tea Party activists will even consider turning on. Sarah's going the way of the women's pro soccer league--it is no more because the only people who watched it were teenage females who play soccer. In the same way, the only people who will watch Palin are tea party activists, and there aren't many of them--certainly not enough to prop up a television show on a national network.

1. I don't know about you, in particular, but some here seem ...
as obsessed with "all things Palin" as much as the teabaggers?

2. TLC has garbage programming anyway.
It's hard to boycott something which isn't watched.

3. I can't think of one good reason to watch this woman
in any venue. I tolerate what little footage I see of her on the news. Beyond that, I have heard everything she has ever said and don't need to hear it again. Essentially, SP's contribution to the nation can fit into a thimble.

4. The less said about this show the better.
If people raise hell or show any interest positive or negative they'll keep it on just because of the media buzz. I don't plan on watching boycott or not.

5. I won't stop watching the cake decorating shows, but I'm sure not watching anything, including the
so-called 'news', with Sarah Palin in it!
