Easier to be liberal than conservative...
I know a guy who is a Republican and keeps repeating that line. I guess it is an insult to say conservatives have to work harder to be conservative.

Another time I was talking to him about the Bush tax cuts and I said they should be stopped he said "Oh that's right, you don't pay taxes" because I am on disability.

He is basically a moral hypocrite too. He is a total apologist for conservative Catholicism yet I come to find out he cheats on his wife With other men.

I confronted him about this and asked how he can claim moral superiority over liberals and his response echoes in my head and irks me.

He said "At least I believe what I do is wrong, I'm just weak."

Great excuse.

1. It's easier to be a hypocrite if one's a conservative
That's what I've discovered

2. Interesting story . . .

Actually it's harder to be a liberal in a time of right wing political violence --

and that's been going on the open for almost 50 years now!

Remember, we're still in the same gene pool that gave us genocide vs Native Americans

and enslavement of African on this land.

4. Hard to be an honest, hard working, dedicated employee with winger bosses
I am about to just wander off into a cave to finish out my days. Sick and tired of breaking my back to do the very best and get treated like shit because I refuse to go to RW 'parties'

3. That's a different excuse
I've yet to meet a conservative/repub/neo-con/teabagger, etc. that wasn't a moral and philosophical hypocrite.

5. Of course, quite the opposite is true...
because fear of other people is so much easier than loving other people (although I believe the latter is exactly what we're on this earth to learn to do), and "fearing other people" is the stock-in-trade of conservatives.

Liberals, for all their mushiness, have the right idea that, even through government, we're supposed to do things that help people rather than hurt them. That's a much more difficult job.

6. It's easier to care than to hate.
Hate takes a lot of energy.

7. Bullshit
Every time I point out an injustice in our society to a conservative, the response I get is for them to throw up their hands and say "that's just the way things are, deal with it"

Point out the same injustices to a liberal, and the response is for them to roll up their sleeves and and say "what can we do to change this?"

bullshit that it's easier to be liberal... :grr:

8. perhaps you should anonymously tell his wife of this fact
As an example that his "superior morality" has consequences. If he were my friend I'd hate to feel I was helping him be immoral in his own eyes.

I guess it IS true what he has to say. I know I'd have to work really hard every day to convince myself a bunch of * that can't possibly be true, can't possibly benefit me, can't possibly produce long term positive societal benefits is worth believing in, actively supporting and voting for.

9. Yep ol FDR just got pushed around in a wheel chair didn't have to walk or anything

Its also easier to be ignorant than it is to actually think about what you believe in.

You can ask him if it so easy why did the Catholic Church outlaw the personal posession of the Bible until a few decades before the 20th century?

The answer is that the Bible is so laden with contradictions that they wanted to 'keep it easy' for the laity so that they could just believe what they were told rather than think for themselves.

10. Being liberal requires thinking, understanding and communication skills,
including being able to spell and knowing when to use the caps lock key and when not to. Being liberal also means being able to think about more than just yourself. Being conservative, in today's America, only requires the ability to parrot talking points that are repeated endlessly on the right-wing noise machine. It also does not require thinking about anything other than yourself and your own wants and needs.
