Democrat handily wins Florida special election for US House
BOCA RATON, Florida (AP) — A Democratic state senator on Tuesday handily won the first U.S. House race since Congress passed President Barack Obama's massive health care overhaul.

With 51% of precincts reporting, The Associated Press called the race for Democrat Ted Deutch, who had 61% of the vote compared to 36% for Republican underdog Ed Lynch. Independent candidate Jim McCormick trailed far behind with just 3%.

Deutch, an attorney, and Lynch, a contractor, both 44, were vying to replace retiring Democratic U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler.

Although not unexpected -- the hugely popular Wexler endorsed Deutch in a district that voted strongly for Obama (65%) in 2008 -- it was nonetheless a sweet win. Republican Lynch went all out condemning the health care bill, hoping that blasting the Democratic signature issue would carry the day. Didn't work out so well.

1. Let the obligatory 'sour grapes' commence
if the so-called 'liberal media' get around to even mentioning the fucking election, that is.

4. Not sour grapes
The Sun Sentinel (Ft Lauderdale) did a front page story on the results.

I would guess the Palm Beach Post did as well.

Despite the two-to-one Dem to Rep registration advantage and a big head start in name recognition, the Congressman-elect did not take the election for granted. He campaigned vigorously and outspent the Rep more than ten-to-one. He raised $1.56 mill to about $100 thou. Since he only spent $1.4 mill, he has a $200 thou jump start on fund raising for the November election.

I think we can consider this seat as a safe one.

I worry about Ron Klein's seat in the adjacent district.

5. You do understand the concept of 'sour grapes,' right?
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 09:16 AM by Cirque du So-What
and that little bit of 'splainin' - the 'outspent ten-to-one' comment - is quintessential sour grapes. It's a coping mechanism - a way of pretending that they don't care for something they cannot have.

On edit: I think it's *ACES* that Florida papers have seen fit to report election results right in their own fucking state, but the talking heads who provide all the news for the rest of the country can't be bothered with mentioning this election. 'Liberal media' my moldy ass!
