27. No I think it is more of the 'Anti Pin Brigade' - It just happened to be a Palin Pin
that set these guys off.

It could have been a Kiwanis pin.

2. I dislike the comparisons to "backwards B." That was an assault that didn't happen.
These people seem to have real injuries.

4. ...
Two people at the Brennan’s event have now confirmed that the protest had largely broken up by the time it ended, but we also understand from someone who visited Allee Bautsch in the hospital Saturday morning that she and Brown were followed and attacked expressly because they had Palin pins on (she heard one of the attackers say “Let’s get them, they have Palin pins on” – so the attack WAS politically motivated as its victims understood it. It was not a mugging, it was not an argument gone wrong and it was not a bar fight.

The story of a Republican and her boyfriend being viciously attacked for wearing Palin buttons has yet to make national headlines, unlike say, unfounded rumors of nasty words being said by Tea Party protesters.

13. Dammit now I've got to run a virus scan...
after clicking on the OP's link. The comments alone are enough to make you :puke:

They're wondering why this is getting no coverage. Could it be because it's "reported" by FR? Also by looking at the comments there are a lot of people who are getting VERY trigger happy out there.

16. Exactly!
This incident was a tragedy that is now being exploited by ethics-free freepers in order to pretend that teabaggers need to "get on the defensive"

18. Oh man tell me about.
Just go to some of the Tea Party/Glenn Beck/Sean Hannity pages on facebook. They try to wrap it around and make it not sound like a direct threat, like they have seen to many episodes of Law & Order but a lot of times it's just out in the open. Talking about putting bullets in liberal's skulls etc.

Only in a teabagger's imagination could that scene have taken place.

5. Anybody who's beating up another human being
is not going to be aware enough to realize what is on their jewelry.

While these two were obviously injured, probably by some thug or thugs wielding baseball bats or other clubs, it's highly unlikely that their jewelry was noticed and read in dim lighting under street lamps. That part of their story is total bullshit.

seem to locate any links to more or less reputable news sites. the closes was a New Orleans Times Picayune story Gov Jindal's strange huh? I mean you'd think there would be all sorts of interviews with witnesses.

12. I found a report from a Baton Rouge tv station, but there was no mention of them being
attacked because of their Palin buttons.

Like you, I find it strange that there aren't more reliable reports of this event.

9. Funny how the actual news article makes no mention of this
it's only mentioned in a post at freeperland.

Only if they show me a police report that backs up the freeper claim, then maybe I'll believe it.

15. It's a bit unusual to break a leg in a street fight.

Most injuries occur above the waistline.

25. Bones in young people are not easy to break
The assailant or assailants would have to use clubs of some kind.

His injuries are more believable in a street fight. "Broken leg" doesn't tell much about hers. There's a world of difference between a broken femur and a tib-fib fracture at the ankle. The latter can be sustained twisting one's ankle badly on a curb in high heeled shoes.

17. It's terrible that these people were assaulted and injured so badly.
No, I don't think they were attacked just for wearing Palin buttons, but it looks so unsympathetic to immediately call them liars.

I'm sure the media is silent because it's still under investigation. It would be best to withhhold judgment until then.

21. It's impossible to call them liars
because they are not quoted in the original article, or the article on FR. They just quote "someone" who makes this claim.

23. Since when is the media silent do to investigation...
They jumped all over backwards B girl. They are quick to speculate while giving that, "well we don't know for sure..." line while continuing to guess why Democrats might do something like that.

I agree that it is not a good thing to immediately bash potential victims of a crime. I think what is going on though, is reaction to the Freepers automatically saying that they were political victims. Just like when all the Democratic politicians were being harassed and threatened, then one Republican has a window broken and the claim is that Republican's are suffering just like Democratic politicians.

26.  FYI, the source for all this is a blog called the Hayride, run by a hack named Scott McKay...
a guy who has scammed multiple people, left a trail of failed business ventures, and can't hold down a steady job for more than a few months. I would take anything he says with a huge grain of salt.

28. Female GOP fundraiser beaten in New Orleans was not wearing a Palin pin
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 05:13 PM by muriel_volestrangler
The reason no one is picking up the story, however, is because the most provocative parts of it are not true. The woman, Allee Bautsch, was badly beaten Friday night. But she was not wearing a Palin pin, and the circumstances that provoked the violence are unclear.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s office told me emphatically Tuesday afternoon that Bautsch, whose leg was “badly broken” in the beating, was not wearing a Palin pin, and neither was her boyfriend, who suffered a concussion, as well as a fractured nose and jaw.

And while Bautsch and her boyfriend were leaving a Republican fundraiser that was being protested, reportedly by anarchists, the statement from Jindal’s office says they are “not aware of any evidence that the individuals involved in the altercation were protesters.”

“Bautsch, and her boyfriend, were involved in an altercation in the French Quarter with a group of people,” the statement from Jindal spokesman Kyle Plotkin said.
