Two interesting comments from a conservative senior citizen
This is an extended family member, conservative (fairly wealthy although she claims she is broke), close to age 80.

Regarding airline and banking industries:

The government isn't taking our freedoms, multinational corporations are!

Of course, to me, our government is largely run by multinational corporations...they're one and the same.

Regarding Limbaugh/Beck/etc.:

They get their listeners intentionally fired up about "issues," only to give themselves an "out" in fine print, by saying, "Hey, it's only entertainment!"

So much for the crowd which espouses personal responsibility and accountability. They dodge it every which way, but especially the ways that keep putting millions of dollars in their bank accounts.

:-)

1. My dad was just like her
He was as conservative as they come, had no use for the religious nuts, loved the idea that his taxes were being cut but never quite connected cuts at the Federal level with rises in every other tax he had to pay.

The awful truth finally dawned on him when Stupid invaded Iraq and I'm glad to say his last vote was for Kerry. What apparently pushed him over the edge was the Smear Boat campaign. He couldn't conceive of doing that to a fellow vet, no matter how much he hated him.

My dad and I didn't discuss politics, a truce we'd reached when I was 20 and we realized it was the only way we'd keep talking to each other. It floored me that he finally voted for a Democrat, although I didn't grill him as to why.

One of the funniest conversations I can ever remember having with him was one about what should happen to Jerry Falwell.

Conservative old folks are completely different from the idiots stapling teabags to their clothing. Most of them do have a good idea about what's really going on. They just like the idea of having their taxes cut.

2. So true....

"Most of them do have a good idea about what's really going on. They just like the idea of having their taxes cut."

Most people don't think beyond their individual world...don't look at the big picture and how tax cuts CAN ultimately affect them and their world negatively, as things crumble around them. I appreciated this article, posted here at DU somewhere yesterday:

3. The Older Generations have a Better Grasp on Things
especially the older generation Republicans compared to today's FOX filled moron.

If you go upstate Maine, you meet many who are republican yet sound more like Democrats on various issues.
