Karzai a key partner in Afghanistan, Obama says

WASHINGTON — President Obama says Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai remains “a critical partner” with the United States in the fight against terrorism despite Karzai’s harsh recent criticism of the West.

In an interview published Friday, Obama said he still thinks Karzai is committed to giving his government greater legitimacy by helping its people and rooting out corruption. He said that if the U.S. is to ensure that Afghanistan is not a haven for extremist organizations, it must succeed on military and civilians fronts there, and Karzai “is going to be a critical partner in this effort.”

Karzai has infuriated the White House with accusations that the United Nations and the international community interfered in last year’s fraud-tarnished presidential election in Afghanistan. The White House suggested that it could even cancel Karzai’s planned visit to the White House on May 12 if such troubling comments continued. But the tone seems to be softening.

“We have gotten through this period,” James Jones, Obama’s national security adviser, told reporters traveling back from Prague with the president on Air Force One.

Jones said that Obama wrote and had delivered a thank-you note to Karzai for hosting him on short notice during the U.S. president’s trip to Afghanistan on March 28. The note made no mention of the recent controversies.

There are several lobbies which influence US foreign policy. With regards to Afghanistan, Iraq, and similar points, the two most influential are the Israel Lobby and the Military Industrial Complex Lobbies.

13. Maybe after Kandahar

US forces are about to destroy Kandahar. This is the main city in the south of Afghanistan, and right now they are circling it, while the Taliban forces are digging in. There has been quite a flow of information from Iraq to Afghanistan, and there are people who fought during the siege of Fallujah and the battles in Ramadi now in Kandahar, and in Peshawar, organizing the resistance to take place in Kandahar. And this resistance has an unusual nature: it's intended to cause US casualties, not to defend the city as such. So the result is going to be carnage the likes of which we haven't seen since Fallujah was destroyed by the imperial army.

So maybe after kandahar is destroyed, the American people will realize this is an endless series of battles. you will have to destroy a lot of cities, and in the end it will be futile. Israel versus Palestine is the key - there's no peace as long as you don't force the israelis to behave like a civilized nation. And president Obama knows this, and so do the Israelis. but you, the American people are kept in the dark, with your press muzzled and your leaders bowing towards their true masters.

15. You are not "helping"

You conquered the country. Afghanistan is at best a client or subservient state, at worst a colony. They would do a lot better if you go away. All you have to do is pay for all the damage you caused. Don't deceive yourselves, you never help much.
