We Need a Unity March...

I didn't grown up during the civil rights struggle, but I know enough about history to know it was a terrible time in our country. I'm so fearful for my children, of where certain politicians and the teapartiers are trying to take us. We have the teapartiers out there making all kinds of mischief and noise, I say it's time that good Americans stood up to these bullies and marched in support of unity.

It doesn't matter what party you belong to, what race, religion or sexual orientation you are; if you believe in having a unified country and civil discourse; you're welcome to join the march. Enough is enough! I'm tired of the hate, and divisiveness in this country. We have to put an end to it. It really is just a matter of time before someone gets hurt. I really would like to figure out how we can plan and form some type of unity March . How beautiful would it be to see folks out there letting the lawmakers know we have their backs, letting the teapartiers know, that hate isn't going to win. What do you think of a unity march in Washington? How can we plan this and carry it out?

2. I wholeheartedly agree and have suggested a mass march or gathering several times here. BUT---

each time I've been lectured about how that whole "take it to the streets" scene is too old-fashioned to work today. The internet, I'm told, has reduced the need for and effectiveness of these "in person" demonstrations.

And, I say, make it a Saturday, give us a few weeks notice and we will fill the Mall with smiling, peaceful, patriotic and diverse Americans who like good government and don't like war, bigotry or hypocrisy.

Let's do it!

3. Its more than just "unity"

The Tea Party people are playing into a lot of real anger people have.

They voted for Obama because he was supposed to fix healthcare, provide jobs, stop the foreclosure crisis, etc.

However, he hasn't done that.

Traditional U.S. politics is 1 party or the other.

So, people are becoming "radical republicans", not the Lincoln type of course.

We need to raise a left alternative. We need to force the Democratic Party to adopt a REAL leftist agenda, or better yet, dump the DLC controlled "Democratic Party" and form a Labor Party, Social-Democratic Party, Green Party, etc.

We need to make it so the only alternative to the status quo is ultra-right insanity. We need to make leftism visible, and viewed as a real alternative.
