The Westboro Baptist Church may be biting off more than it can chew this time...
I see they are planning a trip to West Virginia to torment the families of the dead coal miners. Seriously- not smart. They're going to go up there and tell a bunch of bereaved good ol' boys that their dead relatives are burning-in-Hell-fag-enablers? You'll get your head blown off pulling a stunt like that...

1. They're planning to protest a Bon Jovi concert here.
Phelps, you're to blame. You give love a bad name.

18. It's true! It's true!
...(T)he Westboro Baptist Church announced on their website that they will picket the Bon Jovi concert in Tampa, Florida on April 17, 2010...a listing on the group’s website explains why they’ve selected the Bon Jovi concert to picket.

“These old fools have had access to millions all over the world for nearly 3 decades, but they have not one time told any of them what God requires of them. Why is that? Westboro Baptist Church has been telling you all for almost 20 years what the standard is and that obedience to that standard is not negotiable.”

I call upon every BJ fan in the area to show up and counter protest singing "Livin On A Prayer" in particular. They give God a bad name.

20. Would love to see the Angels ala Christina Ricci & "Not in Our Town," of Billings Montana
They legally surrounded the Baptists-gone-Bad with their wings.

It would be great to have a troop ready to legally demonstrate with wings where ever the GHFs people go.

22. I saw a picture of that somewhere on the internet. Awesome!!!...
There were also instructions on how to make those wings, with white sheets I think. The wings are enormous.

Can't remember where I found that.

40. Just FYI...I looked around trying to find a really good pic
of the angels and couldn't come up with anything. Nor could I find directions for constructing those wings. I know I saw detailed directions, at one point.

I did note, in my search, that the frame for these things is generally made from PVC piping.

13. You ain't just whistling Dixie-
Coal mining is a culture up there. Not only that, but the police they'll be relying on for protection while they're up there will be the good ol' boy West Virginia Sheriff's Department. Most of whom probably have relatives who are coal miners. If ever there were a place where they're running the risk of the protection.... failing.... Know what I mean, Vern?

7. I'm not surprised...look how low the WBC sinks
In Palo Alto, Calif., a city within my metropolitan area, there's been a rash of teen suicides lately. The WBC protested that! So it's not very shocking to see those fools exploit tragedy to advance a perverted homophobic agenda.

9. Especially not considering that IT'S THEIR REASON FOR EXISTENCE.
Everytime someone comes here posting "Can you believe Westboro is going to picket the funerals of (insert name of famous victims of horrible tragedy here)?????" I say "Yeah--because THAT'S WHAT THEY DO!"

I am amazed there is any shock factor left when it comes to these people. Really.

10. WBC is basically a lawsuit generating machine..
They do these outrageous things and then sue when people violate their "rights"..

WBC wins the suits more often than not, they're really skilled at provoking people into actions which violate their Constitutional rights.

25. Allow me to explain why they rarely do this in Kansas anymore
We ignore them.

They thrive on media attention and the local media rarely gives them any. I honestly read more about them here on DU in a week than I have seen in the last 10 years in our local media.

That's why they leave home to protest.

36. If you have ever looked at, reached out, touched and freely taken anything from the coal tree . . .
thank a dead miner (or his kin) and be grateful you're still getting what you're getting from that coal tree while the getting's good . . . and cheap. Very, very cheap.
