2. Why?
I honestly don't know if Dean would be a good choice or not, but you haven't offered any perspective on whether his political positions (which I assume you agree with) and his experience make him an appropriate choice

5. I'd call Dean more of a moderate than a liberal.

6. First of all, as much as I like Howard Dean, the GOP would go
bonkers.

Second, Howard Dean does us much more good where he is.

7. He's not a judge and to my knowledge, not even a lawyer.
Love 'em or hate 'em (and I like and work with lawyers) I don't like the idea of someone lacking legal theory on the SCOTUS.

Not to mention, we need a dyed in the wool liberal to replace Stevens--and despite what many DUers believe, Dean isn't that liberal.

Obama will probably stick with the list of candidates he looked at for the last opening.

11. We may need to run him against Obama in 2012
Look we all know Obama isn't living up to expectations. Yes, I know Howard Dean won't run against Obama in 2012. But at this point, I wish he would.

12. Dorgan? Bayh?
Don't be too surprised if a Senator is not seeking re-election for this reason.

15. not just lack of experience as a judge. not a lawyer.
Edited on Fri Apr-09-10 05:26 PM by onenote
I know the Constitution doesn't require it. But in all of US history, no non-lawyer has ever served on the SCOTUS. And Howard Dean ain't gonna be the first.

Heck, what I don't understand is why anyone suggesting Howard for SCOTUS justice doesn't go all in and suggest DK for the position. Or Sean Penn.
