Teachers and students in South FL walk out of school after passage of legislation.
At Manuel C. Barreiro Elementary in Kendall, only about seven or eight teachers showed up to work today, with the rest calling in sick, a source said. Students were either sent home or left to wait out the school day in an extended recess.

Figured that the over reaching of the pubbies would finally result in the teachers revolting. The have opened up a can-o-worms.

3. Now it goes to Crist ~
Now that it's passed through the House, the bill goes to Gov. Charlie Crist, who had been a supporter but now isn't sure whether he'll sign or not. he has seven days to sign or veto the bill.

"There are things about it that I like and things about it that give me some concern," said Crist. "I'm listening to the people of Florida, my boss."

How about tying politician's pay to how well their constituents are doing?

If this is signed into law, it will increase discrimination towards children with even minor learning disabilities and poor children whose backgrounds often make it difficult for them to keep with other students. Those children will be viewed as a threat to the careers of teachers, many of whom right now work on their own time to help such students.

It's clear that this law was not written with welfare of students in mind. It's just one more reason for good teachers to quit the profession. Testing is the worst thing to base an educational system on as every educator knows.

If this was a European country, there would be no teachers in any school in Florida until this hare-brained attack on teachers is thrown where it belongs, in the trash. I hope that students and teachers refuse to accept it and those who voted for it should be thrown out of office as quickly as possible. They are a threat to the welfare of students.
