My suggestion to Obama about the next SCOTUS pick - keep him/her under age of 50
that that he/she can live long enough to comfortably retire when another democrat is in the white house!

3. Only if --
the candidate can truly fill Justice Steven's shoes. If we get a candidate that will result in the loss of a solidly liberal vote on SCOTUS, I don't wnat that one around for that long.

6. I nominate the glint in the milkman's eye
:)

I think to be taken seriously, the nominee has to be at least 50. But I agree with you, the younger the better.

7. Kagan is 49 and I think she is an excellent choice
and would make it very difficult for Scott Brown to join the filibuster. Unless he seriously plans on retiring in 2012 (Kagan was former head of Harvard Law School)

9. Will Obama Screw the Left Again?
From Eric Alterman

A strong liberal appointment to replace Justice Stevens, who’s expected to retire soon, would fire up the president’s troops ahead of a bruising election season. But Obama may seek middle ground once more by choosing Elena Kagan.

A symbol that Obama wants a fight would be the choice of either Cass Sunstein, formerly of the University of Chicago and now working in the Office of Management and Budget, or former Yale Law dean Harold Koh.
