Attention Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell!
"Confederate" History Month is one of the dumbest ideas in the history of Republican dumb ideas, and your party has had many dumb ideas. This one takes the cake! Personally, I have no problem with your battlefield re-enactments, the battlefield tours etc... Hey! I've been to Gettysburg several times and enjoyed myself. I would even go so far to say that having a "Civil War" history month would be okay as long as it is all inclusive. Might give our high school kids a chance to bone up on their American history a bit. We can even make a national holiday out of it. How about one day in April every year, we have "National Civil War Day" and everybody gets the day off with pay? We could all spend the day with family and friends contemplating those philosophical ideas that tore this country apart and the ones that brought us back together again and then get down on our knees and thank the gods and goddesses/universe/holy heshe/ who ever we be believe in, that we don't live in the "Confederate States of America."

Considering that Amherst County has segregated cemeteries and until
15 years ago, the county administration building had doors for two sets of rest rooms (one pair with tape over the top, covering the word "colored"), the governor's salute to history is in poor taste, pandering of the worst kind, and a waste of taxpayer funds. What's next? Eugenics History Month to celebrate Buck v Bell? (This case originates out of Amherst County and allows the state to designate any citizen as "enfeebled" and have him/her sterilized without their consent.)

1. From a state that doesn't have a Martin Luther King holiday
Instead they have Lee/Jackson/King day. When I go back to Richmond in two weeks to visit family, I'm sure I can find at least a couple of people who are all for Confederate history month, and they will all probably view it as a reaction to their oppression by black history month :(

3. maybe the news didn't get to you in California -- Virginia has had a separate MLK day for a decade
Jackson Lee Day is a separate holiday on separate day. Has been since around 2000.

2. MLK Day
Virgnia does observe MLK day. The state employees get Friday off for Lee-Jackson Day and then they get Monday off for MLK Day. This was the brain child of another great Republican Governor James Gilmore. The dumbfucks in this state who voted for Obama and then voted for McDonnell and his supposed middle of the road policies should be taken out and shot. Mark my words McDonnell is going to screw up Virginia so badly during the next four years. Sometimes I am ashamed to be from this state.

4. Oh, those persecuted good ol' Confederates!
Jealous of those freedmen and dark-skinned people and non-traditional folk who get entire months devoted to THEIR history! :sarcasm:

McDonnell is just sugarcoating Confederate history this way. How he made it to office when he believes this stuff, I dunno.
