here is his letter to me
May 2, 2007
Crossroads, Texas
Dear Mr. V:
Thank you for contacting me about Vice-President Dick Cheney. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.
I believe that President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney have provided decisive leadership for our country. I have been supportive of the Administration throughout my congressional career and will continue to offer my support.
Under President Bush, the United States continues to hunt down and destroy terrorist networks, the economy has thrived, steps are being made to stabilize Iraq and establish a self-governance, and two great Supreme Court justices have been nominated to our nation's highest court, among other things.
Recently, Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio presented Articles of Impeachment against Vice-President Cheney. I believe Mr. Kucinich has little to no legal evidence to support these charges.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate having the opportunity to represent you in the U.S. House of Representatives. Please feel free to visit my website (www.house.gov/burgess) or contact me with any future concerns.
Sincerely,
Michael C. Burgess, M.D. Member of Congress
and mine to him
Dear Congressman Burgess,
I am happy to receive notification of your care and concern for the people whom you represent. However, I take issue with your logic in the continued support of a failed administration - they are sinking, do you really want to be pulled down with them?
As a Christian, I find the continued lies, stubbornness, violence, corruption, and altogether deceitful behavior propagated by our president and vice-president to be appalling. We need to pull out of Iraq before any more American's die due to the arrogance and lies of this administration. As George Tenet's new book reveals, this administration has been deceitful about this war since before it ever began. And as far as hunting down and destroying terrorist networks- I know of no 'destroyed' networks - only strengthened ones. Al-Qaeda has been undoubtedly strengthened due to our war in Iraq and this assertion has been backed by the defense department. The economy has only thrived for the ultra-rich. My father (upper middle class making 6 figures at the end of his career) has had his 84% of his pension taken away from him after serving the same company for 33 years. Many people in my neighborhood (upper middle class with 1 acre lot minimum) have had to sell their houses because they have lost their jobs (no two people have worked for the same company). And I know that as a Doctor, you have to be perplexed by the way the "two great Supreme Court Justices" have acted as though they have medical expertise in the courtroom. Between Cheney's involvement in the malicious outing of Valerie Plame as a covert agent and his involvement in the fabrication of evidence (or at least his complacency) for war there is more than enough evidence for impeachment (definitely more than there was against Clinton!).
If you really want to represent the people and save your political career from the sinkhole that is this administration - distance yourself from them, support our troops, bring them home, and support impeachment. Do that, and you'll have my vote, as well as my (and others) respect.
Thank you for your time (and hopefully your open mind), V
