Williamsburg, Va. - A Williamsburg man is flying the hammer and sickle rather than the stars and stripes. He says it's his way of protesting the government.

If you're driving down Monticello Avenue in Williamsburg you may notice a Soviet Union flag - it belongs to Leonard, a Navy veteran, who says he is not happy about the direction the country is going in.

"Ever since Obama got elected this country has been turning more socialist. A lot of people don't think it's socialist, but I do," Leonard said.

22. Lived in Williamsburg for four years in the mid 1970s.

My employer was told that he could no longer use job applications that asked about an applicant's race, so he removed the question from his master copy and had his secretary make new ones - pink paper for white applicants, blue paper for everyone else. Unlike my co-workers I didn't snicker in approval of his 'clever' solution.

Sadly, his way of thinking was typical for what I experienced while living there. And some of the policies and practices of the Rockefeller Foundation (regarding the personnel working at Colonial Williamsburg) left a very sour taste. If there were liberal enclaves there at the time I managed to miss them. Maybe I just got tired of looking while learning to ignore the almost daily suggestion, usually genteel in nature, that yankees just didn't understand certain realities.

And hubby works for Colonial Williamsburg. After 30 years, in a very specialized field, he still makes under $32,000 a year, while the president of CW makes $650,000 a year. Meanwhile, most of the employees are forced to take one day off a month - unpaid. Hubby didn't get a raise last year, even though he was promoted when his boss retired, and now does BOTH of the jobs. We're hoping for a 2 or 3% raise this year! :woohoo:
