When in the course of human events,

it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of Nature's god entitle them, a decent respect for the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men and women were created equal, that they are naturally endowed with certain unalienable rights, rights which have been deliberately and repeatedly ignored, eroded, even destroyed. To re-secure these rights that our forefathers toiled and sweated so hard to create and support, we again state that governments are created for the people, by the people and solely by the consent of the people so governed. Whenever, such as now, a form of government has become destructive to these ends, it is OUR RIGHT as citizens, to alter and/or abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundation on the original ideals and ideas from whence this country was first imagined, then created, but also to improve upon that foundation, eradicating the biases based on differences of sex, culture, religion, skin color, nationality, and other individual and groups traits that make individuals who and what they are.

As our forefathers warned 231 years ago, Prudence continues to dictate that a government long established should not be changed for light or transient reasons. However, the transgressions of the current administration against his own people and that against people of other countries are so serious and numerous in nature, that it becomes imprudent not to act immediately. We approach a form of absolute despotism of the kind suffered by our forefathers when they began their own revolution for reasons not dissimilar to ours.

To prove our case, the facts below are without question.

HE has refused his assent to law, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
HE has obstructed the administration of justice, by politicizing the method and manner in which justice is sought across the states and in the federal courts.
HE has made US attorneys dependent on his will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
HE has spied on citizens domestically and abroad without warrants or justification.
HE has repeatedly lied and misled his people into unnecessary, and deadly wars, invasions and eventual occupations, causing untold death and destruction for all concerned.
HE has attacked the very protections of the Constitution, the one document that he took an oath to uphold, and by passage of his Patriot Act, and his countless signing statements, destroying the very protections to which each of us are entitled.
HE has erected a new office, misnamed the Department of Homeland Security , which does nothing to increase security, but instead impedes commerce, trade, communication, travel, and privacy to a degree never imagined by our forefathers.
HE has deprived many of us the benefits of a trial by jury.
HE has held, without charges, many individuals who have no benefit of counsel, courts, or juries.
HE has cut off communication and trade with countries who have offered to aid us in a time of need, after the attacks of September 11, 2001.
HE has arrested, harassed and threatened groups of civilians who gather to protest the excesses of government.
HE has precluded and interfered with free speech of individuals and their right to meet safely.
HE has created a mercenary army, uncontrolled by the democratic process, to fight in actions both domestic and foreign.
HE has ignored treaties and pacts among other nations, particularly with respect to torture and basic human rights.
HE has caused the kidnapping and transportation of individuals beyond seas to be held without counsel, trial or juries.
HE has permitted the plundering of our cities, the ravaging of our coasts, and the damage of homes and businesses without properly addressing the damage to individual lives, dignity and health.
HE has permitted political donors and supporters to make vast sums of profit from government funds, without requiring accountability, performance or successful endeavors in return.
HE has used religion and faith based initiatives as an attack on the very structure of government, rewarding only certain beliefs, and punishing all others.
HE has destroyed foreign ties with allies and friends, creating distrust and fear, instead of cooperation and friendship.
HE has permitted the destruction of our ecology, causing suffering and worse among us and guaranteeing that our children and our children's children will be forced to pay a dear price.

Our pleas and requests are ignored, our attempts to gain redress are attacked as unpatriotic, our cries are treated as support of terror. A president whose character is marked by these and many other acts which define a tyrant, is unfit to be a ruler of a free people.

WE, therefore, citizens of these United States, and citizens of the world, finding our appeals to our elected representatives to be ignored, do in our name, and in the name of all other true patriots and citizens of this country, do solemnly declare that George W. Bush is unfit to be president; this his vice president is likewise unfit for office, and that both of them are most likely guilty of a multitude of war crimes and crimes against humanity. We hereby declare that their offices are now declared vacant and that they shall be delivered to the proper international court for imprisonment while the full nature and extent of their crimes are investigated and determined, thereafter which they will be tried for said crimes. We hereby commit to one another our best efforts to fulfill our forefathers' original intent, while removing the horrors of slavery, sex, race, religious and other forms of discrimination while we work together to repair the horrendous damage inflicted on this country, its people and its constitution.

I hereby waive any copyright protection, any ownership interest, and any claim of protection that US laws may provide in the original post.

I also invite every like minded individual to improve upon this document, because as a product of the people, it will have more weight and substance. There are many wise and experienced people here, and their insights and wisdom would help us all.

The original must be read out loud. I dare anyone here to read it out loud and not have a tear for in your eye. The imagery is so strong, the words ring so true, and the emotion and rational approach to government and the relationship between the governed and that organization they choose to lead them, that it is impossible not to be affected 200+ years after the fact.

When I read the first few lines, tears did, indeed, form in my eyes. Our forefathers had it right and I love the way you have woven current political events into such a great historical document. One tear of gratitude for the original work and another tear of pain that we should indeed be using these same words to rid ourselves of a terrible government.

The other day I looked up the Declaration of Independance to make sure I got a sentence correct for a post here whaen I decided to read through the whole thing.
What jumped out at me was how bush has committed so many of the same abuses and usarptations against the Ameican people that the other george was doing.As for the rest,it is only a matter of time before they are happening here or they are currently being perpatrated against people in other lands.
What a sad state of affairs are country has fallen into.

damn, there were dozens.
hell, we were blessed from the start by some well educated, well read, THINKING rational folks who did so much good for the entire world. Even major parts of the Soviet constitution took ideas and theories from the Federalist, and with very good reason. THere were what, 85 or so articles on what, how, why, and why not a coutry and a constitution should take certain forms.

24. how were the germans, before WWI, a proud, educated, successful
mostly peaceful people, with fantastic art, music, philosophy, culture, turned into an army before WWI, THEN after a devastating defeat and horrible treaty results, how did tey recover, grow tremendously strong, and repeat the first damned mistake?

Despite their fierce independence, they also had a strong nationalistic streak, and some very bad leaders led them astray.

Our country is nowhere near as sophisticated in terms of philosophy, (who are our philosophers? WIlliam Krystal? Rush Limlblah? Anne Coulter?) our music is corporate-ized (Clear Channel), art (although we try, despite the Right's hatred of any federal art support) but we have (had) something else. Religion. And just like bad people in Germany led them astray, bad folks here used religion to lead our country astray.

I woke up after 9/11 because the flag waving was scaring me. I put up a world flag to remind all of my rabid neighbors that we belong to something larger than our country and my home was egged for it and the flag was torn down. Yes, religion is a big problem but we are as nationalistic a country as you will ever find.

are the spectators. true patriotism would involve very heavy lifting, on a constant basis, with knowledge of our history, our country's goals, and the current problems we face in getting there.

Freedom of opportunity requires the send of sex, race, and sexual preference discrimination.
Freedom of speech requires an independent media, not beholden to corporate profits.
Freedom of movement requires the destruction of the DHS and TSA.


Our nationalism (Which I agree exists) is more surface or convenient nationalism, spiced up with distrust of any culture we can't or don't understand. (can we say France?)

A true patriot, a true nationalist would be working on fixing problems in our country, not creating them, or simply getting rich off the backs of immigrants, the poor or government contacts.

in some ways, our government has grown out of control - not from a neocon perspective, but from a much more primative view. Even inside the sectors which were working well, (EPA, Social Security, Medicare, many others) the neocons have destroyed the programs from within. In those areas where things were not working well, anyone talented has been replaced by a greedy industry rep.

Take our military spending. we spend billions on outdated airplane investment - stuff we won't use and don't need. WE maintain a fleet of B-2s but don't deploy them because it is too expensive and there are many cheaper, better, faster responses. We have an untested, unworkable, anti-missile shield that is CAUSING problems around the world. We have 200+ foreign military bases, not counting those in Iraq. Why?

IF we were to cut our budget and our bases in half, would our safety be jeapardized in the slightest way? nope. If we were to pull all troops out of europe, would the EU collapse? If we were to withdraw all air and military bases from England, would Wales invade and take over that country?

We need to start from scratch, and insure that individual's rights are always greater than any corporation's rights or power. We need to destroy the military-industrial complex that thrives on war and constant preparation for it. We need a revolution just as powerful, just as earthshaking, just as awakening and just as engaging.

(The military obsolesce is a scam, yes. If you
talk to military contractors and engineers, they
admit they are building planes and tanks that

I read an article on the DOI and found out that Jefferson had not included the words "Endowed by our Creator" in it at all.

He was furious when the Continental Congress revised it. He thought it was just fine the way it was.
