It's about time this issue sees the light of day.

He understands the situation though he has not yet used the words "peak oil".

7 Billion barrels offshore = 1 year's supply extracted over a period of decades.

3. That's why I think this Obama capitualation on 'drill, baby, drill" is interesting.
He's cut the legs out of the Republicans from using that card as a political obstruction strategy on energy policy. The question now is, will Big Oil make these substantial capital investments along with high risks of dry holes, high maintenance, and potential losses due to environmental catastrophes and natural weather conditions? Add to that a pretty limited pool of long term oil that may require further refinery investments and it makes me wonder if there's any corporate board willing to go along with it. Especially when the current business model is a tanker fleet that fills up with sweet crude at the Persian Gulf filling station.

I've always suspected that the idea was used to shutdown talk on alternative energy solutions and was an idea hatched up by Big Oil and their buds in the Republican Party. So now Obama has called their bluff...lets see if that's really a viable option.
