General Motors: A New Sponsor of the Rush Limbaugh Show
Caught a little of the Pigman while at lunch. He was bragging that they have a new sponsor, General Motors. Don't know why a company like GM would want to be associated with this ass-pickle and his racist, divisive show, but...I'm glad I caught it. I'm in the market for a new car, and even though it's doubtful I'd buy one of their POS cars, this seals it.

I'm writing a letter to their corporate headquarters, and to all the local GM dealerships to ask if they are going to begin playing "Barrack the Magic Negro" in their showrooms. I also want to make sure they know that I'm going to encourage everyone that I know to pick another auto-maker when searching for a vehicle.

On a side note. I wonder if Roger Waters was thinking of Rush when he penned these lyrics?

Big man. Pig man. Ha, ha charade you are.
You well-heeled big wheel, ha ha, charade you are.
And when your hand is on your heart,
You're nearly a good laugh. Almost a joker,
With your head down in the pig bin,
Saying, "Keep on diggin'."
What do you hope to find when you're down in the pig mine?
You're nearly a laugh. You're nearly a laugh,
But you're really a cry.

Bus stop rat bag, ha ha, charade you are.
You f***ed up old hag, ha had, charade you are.
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass.
You're nearly a good laugh. Almost a quick grin.
You like the feel of steel.
You're hot stuff with a hatpin, and good fun with a handgun.
You're nearly a laugh. You're nearly a laugh,
But you're really a cry.

1. Here's their contact page.
And even better, a postal address.

GM listens closely to the letter writing crowd. Trust me. But an email is good too.

19. This is a test
How many letters, e-mails, faxes and phone-calls can we generate. There are over 100,000 DU members. It would be disappointing if GM only gets a half-dozen calls.

Anyway I can send this to Olberman? Maybe he'd like to mention Rush' new sponsor in a Worst Person in the World segment.

22. You know what
IMHO there is a huge difference between Hannity and Rush when it comes to the race card. Hannity is a hate monger sure, but he keeps it against "democrats/liberals are evil". I've heard him say some really hair raising things and including "kill all the liberals" Coulter is a real problem. But it's all generalizations except for when he gets a hardon for Hillary, Pelosi, Boxer (notice it's always women). I'd love to see Hannity loose the ability to use the public airwaves to promote hatred and distrust - mainly to improve the political discourse in this country.

Rush on the other hand goes over a whole other line. He's advocated death for individuals more than once, he routinely spouts the most vile racist hate, he goes personal, very personal. Rush goes out of his way to encourage the psychos to take deadly action against the target of the day. Rush's goal is to get someone killed and bring back the "good ol' days" of lynching anyone who isn't a white "christian".

GM choosing Hannity is unfortunate but that's a line I'll live with. Choosing Rush is way over a whole other nasty line that I won't. For me it has nothing to do with Rush being a freep. It has to do with him being a racist.

23. I am not sure why we would have to live with either
as a veteran, hannity gives me goose bumps every time he gives a Marine caller a "semper fi" - like he ever had the guts to wear a uniform . . .

I understand your point - but GM seems to be siding with the reich-wing . . . and I do not see any reason to give them another dollar for any of their vehicles. I will buy from a car maker that can keep politics out of their marketing strategies.

just to ask for a Ruth's Chris gift certificate.

Another place I will never go. Not only because they sponsor the Hannity hate-fest, but also because I refuse to pay $50 tp $100 for a steak I could cook on the grill myself.

35. For the record
GM does place ads in gay publications and I've seen GM Tv ads on Logo. They also place ads in magazines targeted to black Americans. I've also seen GM ads on Bravo, WE and Current TV. These are hardly RW TV stations.

I really have no problem with GM marketing itself to the RW. I'm all for more people buying American cars. Rush is a unique situation to me because of the racism and death talk factor.

44. sounds like I am not the only one upset with GM for their choice in advertising
In what it calls the “You’re a Great American Car Giveaway,” G.M. is awarding a free car every week through Nov. 6. But it has hired as the star of the promotion someone many Americans do not consider great: Sean Hannity, the conservative Fox News radio and television host.

Mr. Hannity, known for incendiary comments like comparing a vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton to support for Hamas or Hezbollah, is announcing the winners of the contest on his radio show — only people who are listening for their name can win.

G.M. officials made some attempts to distance themselves from Mr. Hannity, saying that the company did not endorse his political views and that he did not speak on behalf of G.M. They said the promotion merely used Mr. Hannity’s daily radio program as a platform to reach a broad range of listeners as the show is broadcast on more than 500 stations and heard by 13 million people.

Also, it was GMC that teamed up with Hannity for his recent contest.

I think GMC is really going all out to tell us how they lean ideologically, so fuggem.

34. Why?
Are you looking for a recall?

If you've merely done a moderate amount of Internet surfing or cracked open a newspaper lately - just about any newspaper - you've undoubtedly seen the news that Toyota has once again passed Ford in worldwide auto sales and may pass GM sometime this year.

But what you may not have seen is that Toyota has already passed both Ford and GM in a differ end category - automotive recalls.

Although we've barely passed mid-February, Toyota has already recalled! 533,417 vehicles this year in a mix that, according to www.AutoRecalls.us, includes Tundras Sequoias and Camry’s. That puts Toyota on track to recall more than the over 1.76 million autos they recalled in the U.S. and Japan in 2006, and the 2.2 million they recalled in 2005 when they recalled more cars than they built.

What's more, the current recall related to the Turdra trucks and Sequioa SUVs is similar to the same defect in 800,000 of the same vehicles in 2005.
Maybe somebody at Toyota isn't paying attention?

BTW, I like Wes Clark and supported him from the draft Clark movement through his aborted 2004 campaign. My secret (I guess not so secret now) hope is that he'll rescue us yet.

Radio KAOS..here is his prophetic verse from Home:

When the cowboys and Arabs draw down
On each other at noon
In the cool dusty air of the city boardroom
Will you stand by a passive spectator
Of the market dictators
Will you discreetly withdraw
With your ear pressed to the boardroom door
Will you hear when the lion within you roars
Will you take to the hills

Also a side note from myself - if the shareholders of GM do not remove the brain dead morons running its company into the dirt with some of the STUPIDEST decisions AND non decisions I have ever witnessed a company perform, then bah...bye bye...and THAT from the mouth of a person who has exclusively bought GM product her entire life.

What a bunch of dumb fucks...they are letting the equivalent of a moth as far as intelligence goes run the company into the ground, and paying GOOD DOLLAR to the idiots to do it.

Sheesh.

When they overrun the defences
A minor invasion put down to expenses
Will you go down to the airport lounge
Will you accept your second class status
A nation of waitresses and waiters
Will you mix their martinis
Will you stand still for it
Or will you take to the hills...

KAOS had some great shit on it, it's nice to see Rog getting his due lately..

26. Make sure it wasn't a local commerical or station mistake
before you go off half-cocked.

Another DUer posted that he was about ready to stop using Auto Zone for advertising on Rush's show and got word back from Auto Zone that they did NOT authorize their commercials on Rush's show. In fact, they specifically have told local radio stations NOT to run their commercials during his show.

They asked the DUer for the time, date and radio station so they could put a stop to it.

When companies make ad purchases, sometimes they're in blocks and they don't really know when they'll run. They trust the stations not to run them during certain shows, but sometimes that falls through.

32. Nope. Rush announced it himself
and even said that GM sent him a car to test out for a week.

This was no mistake. This was no "hey, we just buy add time on the radio, we don't know when our adds will run". This was a deliberate move by GM to seak out Rush and sponsor his show.

Sing along with me the new Chevy jingle: "Baseball, hot-dogs, apple-pie, Oxycontin and Chevrolet".

if you would please?

We, Takebackthemedia.com BOYCOTTED Limbaugh a few years ago, to great effect - many of his advertisers FLED from him the same afternoon we started, and BIG ONES too.

I'd like to make sure that this gets as much play as possible, and calling the Marketing DEPT is a GOOD way to go. If you REALLY want to mess with them, find out WHO the stockholders are and contact THEM. THEY get SCARED quick.

I'm going to call in and tell them Takebackthemedia.com might be on the warpath again, thanks for posting. As an owner of a 1968 Chevy Impala, this makes me SICK. :)

The poster who said, "I particularly like the idea of asking them if they're going to play Barack the Magic Negro in their showrooms." has hit the nail on the head - they will FREAK over that statement.

This is the issue to take on. RACISM, pure and simple, no other excuse.

You can see their entire response in a later post.

I wrote back and told them "that's not good enough", and while I appreciate that they take my complaint seriously, nothing short of dropping their sponsorship of Rush' show, and a public apology for sponsoring him in the first place would be enough.

The only thing that gets through to wing-nuts is if you hit them in the pocket-book.

Here's what I wrote

I'm an active duty military member with over 24 years in the Navy. I recently was shocked to find that GM is buying advertising on and is a sponsor of the Rush Limbaugh Show.

I ask you to consider whether or not you want to have your company associated with one of the most divisive individuals in our country.

Please know that I am in the market for a new car, but will take my business elsewhere. A company can be defined by the "company they keep". Does GM consider being defined by Rush Limbaugh a wise choice?

Please know that I will take my business elsewhere, and will encourage my friends, relatives and shipmates to do the same.

52. I called the media line..
And asked if they were going to play "Barack the magic negro" in their showrooms.

The guy who answered was polite but sounded not entirely awake and seemed to be taking notes in longhand rather than on a computer. I gave my email addy and asked for a reply to my question.

I've also asked my wife and daughter to call and put the same question to them. I'm about to ask my brother in law the same thing.
