Tenet: "But we were good boys and girls, and we understand there's gambling in this."

<SNIP>

TIME: But what about when it came to linking Saddam and Al-Qaeda?

TENET: Well, the al-Qaeda thing, you've got quotes from analysts, did they feel that we were being pushed? Yes. Did they buckle? No. We understood all that. But we were good boys and girls, and we understand there's gambling in this. We understand how this works. That was a different issue because of the way it was, you see, that issue is different because there was always the urge, the attempt to create command linkages where none existed. There was always that push, but at the end of the day, we never went that far and we never buckled.

1. "We understand how this works." So do I. K*R

Here's how it works. Bush commits war crimes and this jerk stands by and does nothing.

Nice work George, you're so impressive. Oh, and love that line about how waterboarding isn't
torture; those torture hotels around the world aren't torture.

This guy belongs in the same cell with all of them.

4. The safest gamble of all
Use someone else's money and someone else's life.

It's hard to overstate just how disingenuous Tenet is being here. He knows full well what use was being made of "links" between Saddam and Al Qaeda, and his statement that his shop "never buckled" to the pressure is asinine, and murderously self-serving in the extreme. He knew full well that any statement short of "There's no connection between Saddam and Al Qaeda, and if you so much as hint at that publicly, we'll issue a denouncement in the strongest possible terms" was going to be used by this crooked administration to trump up the casus belli. And when the administration did just that, Tenet sat silently by (well, silently until he could publish his book and make what he hopes will be a potful of money) while hundreds of thousands of men and women in the military had their trust broken, their commitment abused, and their duty compromised for short-term partisan political gain for a bloodthirsty rabble of crooks and liars.
