Should the Democrats be 'working with' the president, or kicking his ass?
Compromise is going to be the death of America. Appeasement instead of attack, surrender to bush instead of fighting him tooth and nail. Does this ape deserve to be treated like a real president? Are our leaders being way too nice to this monster?

I am growing increasingly impatient watching all these people die needlessly and I wish that there was a definite OPPOSITION in our opposition party.

Am I being too hasty and harsh in my judgment? Am I being too radical?

1. Yes, you are. Bush's pre-emptive assault on a sovereign nation
took a few hours, at least logistically speaking.

He was warned worldwide that the subsequent occupation would be a prolonged bloodbath.

It is nearly always a lot greater an obstacle to occupy than to invade and it takes more time to pack u and leave than it does to arrive and settle in.

I expect that everyone is sickened by the carnage and loss in Iraq.

But Pelosi, Reid, and other Democrats can't unscramble Bush's poison eggs in three and a half months, which is how long they've been the majority party in their respective chambers.

2. imo you're dead on.
The Dems were swept into power to curb this maniac, any way they can. Taking impeachment off the table was the first mistake, and it's been downhill since then imo. They shouldn't send him a new bill at all (if that's legal).

5. Bush should be treated like a real president.
Edited on Wed May-02-07 05:20 AM by Eagle_Eye
He should be impeached and removed by due process. Bush is a criminal and should not be appeased or compromised with. The Democrats need to set a precedence here about abuse of power so that a loose cannon president cannot wage a war for profit.

3. Too soon to say: maybe more hasty than harsh
Pelosi is a smart strategist.

She may have a plan and timetable in mind. She
knows what public opinion is, and she knows what
her base thinks. She has played it pretty cool so far.

I'd wait a few days to see what she has up her sleeve
before accusing her of caving in altogether. Her goal,
beyond getting something as close as possible to the
bill that passed into law, is to make Bush look bad,
and to associate as many vulnerable Republican House
members with their arrogant, incompetent figurehead.

She is not the sort to cave in with the support she has.
I suspect there is a bit of maneuvering going on right now.
If they don't want to show their hand before they're ready,
I'm OK with that.

If it's all smoke, and they have no strategy, and really cave
in, THEN we demand some ass-kicking. But give them a chance, first.
She might be doing just that, but in such a way they won't notice until
it's too late to prevent it.

4. "Working with" Bush means one thing....
doing it HIS way. There is no "working with" Bush, there is only working around or through him. The man is one solid block of granite (at least between the ears), immovable and in the way. There's no working with a man with a messianic complex. He believes he gets his orders from god (or those other voices in his head) and no mortal can dissuade him.

It's Bush's way or the highway. As the old Marshall Tucker song goes, we should "Take the Highway".

6. Exactly, can't work with an Nazi.
'if the Democrats send me a bill I don't like I'll piss on it', there's no compromising or working with such an asshole.

7. For an example of what OUR congress should be...
think back to Gingrich's GOPAC congress. Gee, they compromised and really behaved themselves.

It is really difficult to install spines where there are none to start with. Perhaps letters to our congresspeople should begin with: Do you like cashing your paycheck? If you do, then do the people's work.

11. They also got Clinton re-elected
Gingrich interpreted the election as a mandate to do whatever he wanted and that came back to bite him in the ass during the government shutdown.

Clinton made him look unreasonable for trying to cut Medicare and it saved his presidency.

22. Yep, he's already made it clear he thinks he's the "decider"
and that he's going to (try to) do whatever he wants. The only way is to foil him. If it was some other Repub, maybe they could be compromised with, maybe, not this one. No way.

9. They don't have any choice but to "work with him"
They sent Democrats a slim enough majority that they can't really do anything.

13. Not to the extent that we want them to
If they were really willing to do anything more than symbolically distance themselves from Bush, they would override the veto today. They won't do it.

24. I'm not talking about the Democrats, I'm talking about the Republicans
I'm saying that if the Congressional Republiccans were really willing to distance themselves from Bush, we'd get a veto override.

That's the definition of bipartisanship to Republicans. We're screwed until the next election.

16. KICKING HIS ASS!
I am sick and tired of this BS of the Dems backing down to the dick-tator in the WH.

The 2006 mid terms put the Dems in power BECAUSE (IMO) people wanted a change....NOT a rubber stamp to that POS Bush.

I am hoping the Dems in Congress grow a back bone and tell Bush, "Go Fuck Yourself!"
