Comic book artist ends life at suicide clinic after battle with MS
John Hicklenton, who lived in Brighton, East Sussex, died at the assisted suicide clinic on March 19 aged 42 following a 10-year battle with the disease.

He was renowned for his characteristically-grotesque figures in the cult British comic 2000 AD, including interpretations of famous characters Judge Dredd and Nemesis The Warlock.

2. How sad......for us.
He absolutely had that right, and he exercised it.

He had his affairs in order, and then he was done. I strongly believe that people have the right to do this, but oh how hard for his loved ones who will no longer have him near them.

May he have safe passage...

Scandinavians think of suicide as the last privilege.

9. Dearest CaliforniaPeggy, How HAPPY that HE DID IT HIS WAY!!!
Death is inevitable. How FORTUNATE are those who are able to maintain their OWN perception of dignity in yielding to it, as we all someday must. How much harder is it for loved ones to watch someone slowly deteriorate? What feel you about having someone "near?" What does that really mean?

11. What do I mean when I say someone "near"?
Someone I love, someone who is dear to me...

My husband, my children, my dear friends...

I agree with your statement about how fortunate those who are able to maintain their own perception of dignity when death arrives. But we still miss their presence in our lives...

12. I've just gone through this
having lost my beloved little sister a fortnight ago. She was much farther away in those last days, her body wracked with pain as her mind faltered. When she transitioned I gained another insight into what it means to have someone near...

13. Ah, my condolences on your loss...
I have not yet lost anyone that close to me...

I know it's coming, and it scares me...

I hope your precious memories of happier times with her will help you recover from your devastating loss...

14. Thank you for your kindness, CP!
I experienced a new nearness with her upon her death. Somehow we're together in the "now." It's quite reassuring and consoling. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this.
