Teabaggers get no pass. There is no excuse. (updated)
Edited on Fri Mar-26-10 08:58 PM by ProSense
After eight years of Bush and Republican rule supported completely by many of these very people, they get no pass.

There are millions of independents, liberals and progressives who are suffering the injustice of corporate greed who haven't resorted to violence.

Anger at the current economic situation, and there is plenty of it, is justified. Violence is not. Nothing is an excuse for spitting on a Congressman, hurling slurs, hanging the President in effigy---it's about race.

They want what the want: an intolerant country where people who look like them and share their narrow perspective succeed.

They are threatened by what they see: a "Muslim," "non-American" black man at the helm of the country. That's unacceptable to them.

On edit: As for Michael Steele, he's simply a useful tool, someone willing to support intolerance.

Updated to add: This is also a Census year, which is really a threat to the intolerant.

2. Rent-a-crowd
it's easy to buy these people. They are gullible idiots who can be bought and taught to dance like puppets.

the right is regrouping and using what it can to claw back.

5. Anyone who says they're just angry at the current climate.
Scott Brown tried to, but also anyone who characterizes this lunacy as a movement driven by people who are sick and tired of corporate greed and Washington. If that's the case, why are they supporting the very politicians and policies that brought the country to this sorry state?

6. LOL You could make the same statements about Democrats
people who are sick and tired of corporate greed and Washington.

...supporting the very politicians and policies that brought the country to this sorry state

Not a very good argument.

7. No you can't
Have they resorted to violence?

You can blame the Democrats for Bush's assault on the economy, but you can't accuse Democratic elected officials of inciting violence.

10. I remember people on DU and elsewhere attacking the anti-globalization movement for "violence"
Edited on Mon Mar-29-10 09:37 AM by Leopolds Ghost
Defined as rowdiness. Me, that is not my issue with the tea party people. Most Americans detest civil disorder; that is why many people love this bill because it promotes conformity. One of the reasons is there are legitimate reasons to fear that an anti-government mob will turn into a fascist mob. That being said, the original Boston Tea Party would be considered an act of violence by actuarially inclined "average Joes" who work for big insurance cos. I am not excusing the actions of the extremists, because they are motivated by hatred and a desire to increase, not decrease, the amount of fascism in the system. I've worked at a nonprofit community establishment that used to play host to anti war meetings, We had our windows broken twice. ALL WE GOT from supercilious local (Dem) politicians was nasty looks and "you're to blame for not carrying glass insurance." Ironic isn't it? I recall RWers condemning evil hippies for mythical incidents of spitting on Vietnam vets. Obviously if you want to rally people to your cause with civil disobedience, spitting is not the way to go. Really, in America, low-scale violence and disorder is nothing new, nor is it Kristallnacht. My problem with the Tea party set is that they are making it impossible to have a civil conversation on DU because they are trying to move the dialogue even further to the right, allowing center-right DUers to say "This IS the left. you're either for the current Administration ideology or you're a Tea bagger."
