Why aren't Republicans jumping with glee right now?
They say Democrats just committed political suicide so it should be only a matter of a few months before the Huge Republican landslide sweeps them into office with the mandate to take back the health care from the American people..Why are they so glum? Really not much of the new Bill goes into effect before the Huge Republican landslide occurs so the country should not suffer under Communism all that long. They will be America's greatest heroes.. they should be dancing in the streets with their political good fortune..Unless maybe they know something they aren't telling us...

1. Boner's Last Stand...
Here's a prediction...if the rushpublicans fail to retake the House in November, Boner is gone, flacid. They'll go with an even more obnoxious choice...like a Bachmann (the "anti-Pelosi") or Darrel "The Ice Man" Issa.

6. They'll go with Paul Ryan
Who is the only one in the whole group who could appear to sound reasonable from the perspective of independent voters. The rest of them just sound like petulant nutjobs, and they even know that.

2. Alternate reality
Saying one thing while they know reality is another all together.
That should be something the Republicans are familiar with, alternate reality

3. Now they have to work. They were planning on not running for Congress
if the bill didn't pass, now that it passed they are going to have to raise money and campaign for Congressional seats.

4. Because whatever Dems are for they must be against
They don't give a shit about the actual contents of the bill, any more than the supporters do.

5. And if this bill really IS a gift to insurance companies
and going to destroy the nation, I would think the Republicans would be jumping for joy. Hmmmmm.....

9. Even if the legislation isn't perfect (which it isn't IMHO)
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 09:49 AM by Proud Liberal Dem
It still represents a HUGE step forward in regards to health care reform in this country and will benefit lots of people and the Repubs staked their political fortunes on being able to derail and destroy efforts to enact the legislation. Now that the legislation has passed and due to become law, they know that they will be recognized in history's textbooks (assuming that only factually correct texts are selected) as being on the wrong side of history (yet again).

10. They are batting 1000 on being on the wrong side of history.
Hopefully this brings in a new opposition party that actually discusses topics with reason as opposed to just trying to scare people and lie to them. Republicans don't seem to be changing their position in any way though.

12. I think that somebody over at Daily Kos summed it up well last night
that Republicans still aren't sane enough to govern (which, unfortunately won't keep some people from wanting to elect them nonetheless but victories like this should help blunt their momentum). It's hard to say what will happen next (and frankly I don't really care) but they seemed to think that doubling down on obstructionism (a la 1993-1994) and fearmongering (a la 2002-2004), as well as embracing the nascent tea party *movement* would easily springboard them back into power in November and for awhile it looked like that had a pretty good chance of happening but now that they've just been handed their a**es and the Democrats have gotten comprehensive HCR enacted, the outcome of the midterms may be looking better for us. What lesson they will take away from the outcome of this debate is anybody's guess. Maybe enough of them will "see the light" again and get back to the business of what they are being paid to do, namely the people's business, but given the current composition of the Repubs in Congress I dunno.

15. I don't see them taking this strategy and holding their block together
forever. Eventually some of these people elected to Congress are going to want to do something besides lie and vote no. I know I would be pretty pissed if I was elected and told that's what my new job was.

13. My husband and I were just talking about this last night...
If the Repukes know for a fact that this Health Care reform is so damn bad, why don't they just let the Democrats hang themselves with it...say nothing....keep their big freakin' useless mouths closed....let the Dems go down in flames? I'll tell ya why, because they all know they just lost the WH in the next Presidential election and that the Dems may pick up even more seats in Congress and it's NOT the end of the country we once knew.... this legislature passing was a HUGE nail in their coffins. They'll never admit it, but they all know it's true. THAT is what all the whining was/is about. Their party is pretty much toast. THANK G-D!
