My right wing co-workers are losing their minds
One is going to quit and go on welfare because after the tax increases to pay for this she will do better on welfare than on her current $40k a year job. Another thinks this is the socialist takeover Glen Beck has been warning us about. Another posted on facebook that socialist Obama and liberal asshole congressmen have put our country in the "shitter". It's kinda fun watching them freak out and make up shit about a bill they have zero knowledge of. They are all whispering in conspiratorial tones since they know I won't put up with their shit unchallenged. I feel kinda sorry for them because they are so scared of what they have been told by the right wing echo chamber but it also makes me angry that they are so willfully ignorant and pass on their ignorance to others.

23. Yesterday some of my football friends were tweeting
about this. Usually I try to keep separate my politics and my sports but this one girl was saying that she WISHED her state was run by republicans. She's from Mass. I told her how ironic since Mitt Romney, a REPUBLICAN passed essentially the exact same bill in her state.

27. People like that need to hear from people (like myself) who have been on it
Back in the early 1970s after hubby #1 left.

I was getting cash payments of $234.00 per month for myself and two kids.

That's $117 every two weeks.

My apartment rent was $115 per month

No food stamps at that time...just the powdered eggs and milk and blocks of cheese and butter, peanut butter, mystery meat, etc.

The rest of the money was supposed to be used for utilities and personal items, cleaning items, clothing, etc.

Barely subsistence level. No bon bons at my house...

38. Yeah. Tell her she can't just "quit work and go on welfare"
because if you're on welfare, you now have two years to FIND a job or else...so the idea that she can "quit her job and go on welfare" won't exactly work.

Aside from the fact that it's not going to be the bonanza of ready income and delightful leisure that she assumes she is currently supporting with her tax dollars.

22. Sort of related, but not really...
I have a son-in-law who hates his job.

He does have Crohns, and he did have a nasty bout in October of 2008... nothing much since, but that's not the reason he wants to quit and go on disability. He just hates his job.

So he's under the impression that he can just up and quit and go on disability.

Ummmmm....yeah.

50. That son-in-law would need to prove a few things...
like the disease he has (and I don't wish it on anyone) makes it literally impossible to hold down a job consistently. I've been on and off my job for the past year that my medical team broached the subject to me. I'm hearing none of it. I do have "issues with liking my job" right now but a quitter is not for me. If I get totally debilitated by what I have then I might consider it as a last resort (like when I get fired for being out of work too long). Otherwise... I'm going to fight to manage my condition and do what I want to do despite what I have. I got too much to do to - I'm not going on disability and I hate that word... I see why people want words like physically challenged or differently abled... I'll just call my issue a "brain chemistry disorder".

Mark.

51. that's what I told my daughter
He has to have been out of work for quite some time, and he probably would also need to show that his condition is unmanageable in spite of treatment. He's supposed to be on a special diet but he ignores it. He's also on some kind of medications, which he doesn't take on a consistent basis.

He's one of those types who thinks he knows more than everyone else, and often makes his own troubles by not listening to people who have more experience.

What can ya do...

40. Isn't the lack of logic stunning?
They really and truly believe that the Dems passed this bill to give undocumented workers "free" health care. I don't mean "affordable" health care...I mean, FREE. So that these undocumented workers (which, as we all know, are positively overrunning America and crowding out the "real" citizens) will be loyal Dem voters for life, and Dems will be a permanent majority forever.

And when you say to them, "But non-citizens can't vote. How are these people supposed to be able to vote Dem at all?" they have the magic answer: "Why, ACORN, of course. ACORN will register ANYBODY. That's why Obama won, you know--voter fraud."

*sigh*

49. M: The real shame is this bill could have been written by Nixon - it is about
what moderate republicans would have backed in the late '68's. There is nothing remotely leftist about it - it merely regulates the existing health insurance business practices. BUT the main thing it does is provide a foot in the door forlater changes in our health care "system" - one that may soon lead to single payer or PO.

To call this-or any Obama policies-socialist is just ignorant.

Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 09:32 AM by Bert
I had fun working in a remote location from my office on Obama's victory, it was down in Tennessee with one of my co-workers and myself with about five or six guys. All nice by the way, but utterly convinced that the end was coming. Plenty of signs around churches were warning about the end of christian America. I had a little fun joining in with them, talking about the future socialist indoctrination training camps. They all nodded their heads gravely and I resisted the temptation to giggle. It may not be possible at work but it can be very entertaining to try to lead them on even further, start saying socialism a lot, maybe even mention NAZI's and throw in some very loud Barrack HUSSEIN OSAMABAMA and they'll be going at it all day. Non stop entertainment.

41. I can relate
I have one teabagger friend who hates everything about Obama. Her Facebook post this morning said that she was glad that Rep. Adam Putnam (that rich little asshat from FL-12) voted NO on the bill

She's 55 or so and watches ONLY Faux "News" and says that Rush Limpballs and Glenn Beck are her favorite radio/TV programs. Has been trying to convert me to a Tea Party freak for ages, as she says that's the only way to go. "Obama will kill this great country." And fucking GWB didn't???

She's also very much in favor of the wars (none of her family has ever served) and wants action taken against Iran by us. Sorry for my rant.
